FACES OF PELICANS "A wonderful bird is a pelican His bill will hold more than his belican. He can take in his beak Food enough for a week, But I'm damned if I see how the helican." I understand Dixon Lanier Merritt penned this as a limerick in 1910. It was later published in 1940 by the American poet Ogden Nash, best known for his humorous rhyming verse, in his "The Face is Familiar" collection and thus often attributed to Nash in error. Thanks to Britta for the Dixon Lanier Merritt limerick or poem that so delightfully presents them. A wonderful bird is a Pelican...may my photos in my 'Faces of Pelicans' do them justice...'cos otherwise...I dunna know how the helican. Geo: -38.1812, 144.313Woke up to Melbourne ,hooray. Cool day but is supposed to get hot later In the week. Disembarkation went well and we got the firstGull bus home, arrived there at 10.15 , got to like that. Went and got Tinka , ah back to normal. Holidays are great(sometimes) . Wednesday 8th July: Wow a Bucket Billabong Barra - 57cm long. Not too bad for starters. Managed a legal barra each day at this billabong. Visit from the National Park Ranger again. He didn’t have time for a cuppa but stayed for 1.5 hours??? Back to Darwin for the mail and some food. Stayed at PK & Kim’s shed. Purchased a Next G phone and external antenna to improve our contact with the working souls in society-(that’s you guys). Headed east to Hardies Lagoon-Wow, no one else there. Fished our little arms off without much luck. It seems like the resident crock (5 metres long) has eaten all the barra. Friday 18th July: Lets move on to 2 Mile Hole.
