Yesterday was raining all day. Hooray, it's needed badly out here. Hopefully the fire is out and the threat of fire is lower now.
I spent the day cleaning the camper within an inch of it's life, doing laundry, catching up on the phone and just had a great day. Oscar slept which is his normal rainy day behavior.
Today was slow to clear, so was I. Nice to have a lazy day now and again but it didn't turn out that way. I found a place to change the oil in the camper, can't believe it's 3,000 miles already. I got a taco salad for lunch and found a picnic bench overlooking the lake, and just enjoyed the gentle laping of the water over the stony shore line. An occasional Killdeer,( bird), would fly by, a family of robins searching the willows for lunch, and several gulls sitting on the shore just resting. The clouds were billowing overhead and clearing was taking place except for the highest peaks. It was chilly in the wind and shade so when the sun came out it felt really good.
I decided to do some sightseeing so I headed south to
find York's Islands. There is a group of islands in the Missouri River about 6 miles from here that were named after Clark's slave York. It was an incredible honor for a black man at that time. I brought my chair and sat at the water's edge for a time imagining what it was like on the Lewis and Clark expedition right here in this very place, that looks as it did then. I was hoping to see a moose too but not today.
Then I went to Toston Dam to see what was about, saw some white pelicans and some ducks having a scooting lesson from their dad. Pictures. There was a girl about 7 playing with her dog on a dock. She was throwing a stick in the water and the dog took flying leaps into the water to retrieve it. I don't know who was having more fun, she kept laughing and squealing every time the dog jumped in and he got more and more excited to do it again.
It was getting late in the afternoon so we headed back. Yes, I grabbed Oscar to go with me and he stayed awake long enough
to see some sights and smell some smells. Always great smells by the water.
On our way home I noticed that the clouds had cleared from the 2 peaks and revealed snow. It had snowed up there yesterday while we had rain, oh it looks beautiful ! Picture.
I went to the store to get something sweet and found a Popsicle made here in Montana, huckleberry ice cream with dark chocolate coating. OMG it was delicious, I'll have to get some to put in my freezer.
I made a cheese burger and broccoli for dinner, tasted like a million bucks.
It's now late and I'm exhausted but feeling wonderful.
