Old World vs. New World: FOOD 1. The year is 1419, would you rather live in the Old World or the New World based on food alone?
If I were given the chance to choose which world to live in, I would most likely choose to live in the Old World if everything were based off of food alone. The reason behind this is because the agricultural life from the Old World is more influencial on the foods I eat today compared to the New World foods. Though chocolate is one of my favorite desserts, I do not eat it daily. Many of the dishes I, along with the rest of my family, eat involve the domesticated animals from the Old World. Rice is also part of my daily meal, whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I eat rice everyday. The New World foods are not as evident in my meals as the Old World foods are.
2. Interview a family member. Choose ten foods from the list, five from the Old World, five from the New. Ask them where they think each food belongs to.

Old World Strawberry - New World # Correct : 2 out of 10 Why?
I think the reason why she had most of the answers wrong is simply because she lacked knowledge as to what exactly the Old and New worlds are and the difference between the two. I think that my mom's indifference also plays well into the fact that she could not carefully think about the type of food and its relation to the New and Old world regions. Before I asked her these questions, however, I did try to establish some background information for her, saying that the Old World is the Afro-Eurasia region in the 1400s while the New World is located in the Americas.
3. Pick a favorite family recipe. Is it more Old World? New World? Both? Explain.

3/4 oz - Patis (fish sauce) to taste
Category: Old or New?
This dish is more influenced by the Old World because many of the ingredients relate to domesticated animals for food and some of the other ingredients are garlic and onions, which are very prominent in terms of taste in this dish, suggest that many of what we need come from the agriculture of the Old World. I am unsure of whether fish is from the Old or New because I know that the Ameircas and the Afro-Euroasian area are both surrounded by water than can give the people easy access to fishing. Since fish can be considered a food from both worlds, I would only count the ingredients not requiring fish. In total there are 11 ingredients, and seven of those belong to the Old World, which means that most of the needed ingredients would be found in the Old World and would most likely taste better if it were to be made in the Old World instead of the New.
4. The End. 😊
