Ivan flew in from OKC to enjoy 4 nights in Las Vegas with Kim and I. We had a blast.....and missed WAY TOO MUCH sleep. That is what a Vegas vacation is all about....staying up too late, gambling a little, eating too much, drinking a little and just having fun. The vacation was a blur....but I'll do my best to remember LOL. OCT 2 Sunday Ivan arrived around 3:30pm and we headed to our first hotel.....The Luxor. Kim and I had checked in early and had a bottle of Asti Spumanti waiting on ice....so we could toast our vacation. Kim and Ivan just LOVE the Egyptian theme at the Luxor so the setting couldn't be more perfect. We were on the 28th floor which had a nice view of the mountains. The first night we had ... read more

The midday sun really beat into me. I thought summer was over, but sitting in Giant Stadium, a sweltering furnace of heat and energy, today with 78,452 of my closest friends I thought I was going to be cooked. Maybe I deserved it because I had, along with many others in NFL stadiums around the country, spurned a day of prayer for a chance to worship at the mammoth cathedral that is American Football on Sunday. My dad and I had always watched football together on TV every Sunday since I was little. I grew up idolizing my New York Giant heroes, Phil Simms, Lawrence Taylor, and Bill Parcels. However, it wasn’t until last year that I actually got to attend the big event live for the first time. Today I got the chance to ... read more

Taking it easy I've gotten real good at that! Bye Bye USA. Wow, it just dawned on me that today is my last day here in the US and I'll be heading home tomorrow! Well, not home as in Vancouver, but home as in Canada. I can't believe that 9/10ths of my trip are gone and that the last 1/10th are sure to fly by. I fly into Halifax tomorrow afternoon and a couple of days after that I'll take off on a short 6 day tour around Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. From there I decided that I'd like to fly over to St. John's, Newfoundland before heading back to Halifax where my train journey across Canada will start. Something I've always wanted to do since I was a kid! Since the ... read more

Rock Springs, WY Middle of the Red Desert, Bunny's run rampant here like squirrels Only they don't climb trees and often end up as road kill. Drove past Independence Rock without realizing it "Hey Megan- what's that larger rock over there?" Almost got run off the road several times by truckers going West on 80. Bully Semis. Old mining city surrounded by rolling hills, They look like painted flats, scenic paintings, illusions, Megan described them as a "Navajo Blanket", Stretched out over a sleeping giant, At night the hills disappear, And leave just a dark void Between the city street lamps and the star lit sky. A difficult week as far as the kids go, They all seem to be enjoying rehearsals and the show, But attention and focus is lacking. Mostly due to rehearsals now ... read more

The next day we drove around Beverly Hills, and Mick is sure we saw Reece Witherspoon. We saw the Osbornes house, and some others. Was OK - maybe next time we'll do the guided tour. We drove through Rodeo Drive to Venice Beach. There was a kind of weather phenomenon that day that caused the coast of California to become completely fogged in! Apparently it is not unusual, but made for very dismal photos of venice beach. It was an experience however. We continued our drive north along the coast road in the fog! And did I mention before the crazy US road signage (or lack of it), we made the wrong turn on a number of occasions. We were going to stop exactly half way between LA and San Fransisco, but there was no room ... read more

The next day we had a few things to do, we went to Haight Ashbury for breakfast, then went to the park near the Golden Gate bridge, then we went on a tour of Alcatraz, phew. Alcatraz was a little creepy, and was absolutly packed with tourists. After that we just walked up and down the main tourist strip looking for souveneres and the like - beer for Mick!! We actually had an early night for a change. ... read more

I started thinking about seeing the Panama Canal six years ago after seeing the Erie Canal. I never really thought about the fact that the Canal really wasn't all there was to see in that country!!! After all, even an internet search in 1999 turned up very few leads on tourism in that country, especially since I was interested in only low-priced( translate " cheap") options. So when, our daughter said "Let's go for it" last fall, I now found a tour site "Extreme Panama" that filled my need for low cost and her need for seeing the whole country. Never mind that I ignored the fact that I might not be the physical specimen I liked to believe I still was!! After all, I had spent the better part of my 74 years abusing my ... read more

Off to a new continent and a new beginning. Welcome to Miami. While dad says he is from this country, I dont understand why most people dont speak his language.
