1. Columbus day has always been a widely celebrated holiday; however, research has shown that their are many reasons why it should not be a national holiday. Many historians have discovered that Columbus mistreated the Native Americans by taking them as slaves and torturing them. He also brought many diseases with him which killed many Native Americans.

2. I do not think we should celebrate Columbus day. I would not consider him as a hero because he killed many innocent people, and he was lucky. He took many slaves just because they would be good slaves. He was a person who mistreated the Native Americans and African Americans. His actions make us not want to celebrate his holiday.

3. This connects to class because we are studying the exploration of the new world. We just finished learning about how the Spanish were able to take over the Incans and Mayans easily. Also, many explorers are starting to find more lands to gather riches and conquer them for their queen or king.
