We just arrived in Las Vegas....
Sorry for taking so long to update THE BLOG but we have been in areas that did not have internet access. Dwight was going through withdrawal!!!!

So a lot has happen since we left Iowa on Saturday Nov 20th.

After a great visit/stay with our Iowa cousins we headed west.
Stopped overnight in Kansas City at our good friends the Cash's.
Then it was a long days drive getting our kicks on Route 66 and standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona!!!

Joan had never been to the Grand Canyon so we made a side trip to the South Rim and spent the night at one of the lodges there. Dwight had seen the Canyon years ago but it is still a breath taking experience. If you have never seen it you need to put it on your Bucket List. We were surprised to find snow there already but it only added to the beauty of the surrounding area. We want to go back again earlier in the year when we can do more hiking or do a mule ride to the canyon floor.

Then it was back on the road again this time stopping off in Laughlin, NV where Dwight was tempted to bet the house proceeds on RED but Joan talked him out of it...which was good advice because it came up BLACK!!! So we played craps and blackjack...Joan broke even and Dwight lost $20.

Next stop was Joshua Tree National Park which is in California close to Palm Springs where we spent Thanksgiving camping with our son Ben and his girlfriend Jennifer. This is an annual event for Jennifer's family which we were lucky to be included. I counted 41 of us enjoying a fantastic dinner cooked outdoors over open fires!!!
We haven't camped in years but have always enjoyed it. But we were not prepared for 30 degree nights. Man it was cold. But on Friday the whole group went into Dessert Palm Springs to the Hot Springs Spa where we went hot tubing, took showers and went out for Mexican dinner.

Now we are in Las Vegas for two weeks staying in a great 2 bedroom apartment at a Marriott Residence Inn. Camping was fun but we are really enjoying life's little luxuries like hot water and a nice soft bed!!! Not to mention it was well past time to do laundry and catch up on blogging, email and bills. Then it will be time to enjoy the fun of Vegas. The weather is still rather cool but supposed to warm up next week. Of course, it doesn't matter if you are in a casino.

By the way, while we are homeless we are using Dwight's sisters address which is in the small town Dwight grew up in. It is
P O Box 245
Pe Ell, Washington 98572

Also, if you have the time send some comments so we know you are getting our BLOG.

We hope everyone had a GREAT Thanksgiving. We sure did and BOY do we have a lot to be thankful for!!!

thanksgiving
What a lot you have to be thankful for! What fun to read your blog. I went back and read it from the beginning today. The Flat Stanley candle is so funny! We had two actual flat stanleys with us while traveling with my sister's family in Europe one year. I'm sure the candle will spark a lot of interesting conversations along the way! Happy trails and happy reading. all my best, Cindy Christensen

So happy we got to see some of those same sights while we were living in AZ...sorry we couldn't be there now or we'd offer you a stop on your grand tour. Keep us in mind when you make it to CA. Congrats to Ben and Jennifer. Looking forward to hearing of your next adventure.

Vegas not my all-time favorite but infinitely better than 30 degrees! Trip sounds great; keep the blog going. Fred's coming that way today. OK to give Duane your blog info? Sabrina baptized yesterday; she came thru the ceremony like a champ. Mom & Dad also made it. Thinking of you. Art

Westward Ho!
Loved your photos and thought about your knees and how they are holding up in cold temperatures, Joan. Did you do any hiking at Joshua Tree? When we went to the canyon in early March06.....the lst snowfall of the season, 12" fell our lst nite in the park. When we left and went to Flagstaff, additional 12" fell and we could not get to Sedona. Second time we could not get to damn Sedona because of snow....lst time in 1989 when ND won championship game in Tempe. Love hearing the details of what is going on out there! Love, M
