He's taken over MY chair! August 1 -I arrived at Uncle Jerry and Aunt Betty's house in Lincoln yesterday afternoon and got set up in their driveway. This morning we attended church, meeting my cousin Russ and his wife Lori there. After church we had some lunch, then met Jerry and Betty's other son Kris at the Sunken Gardens. We toured the gardens even though it was terribly hot. There were some gorgeous flowers and shrubs. For summer the gardeners had used a variety of caladiums of different colors, a deep purple plant which I think was what I call “wandering jew”, and some other purple plants I didn't recognize. The ponds had beautiful water lilies and some huge koi, which I love to photograph! Uncle Jerry wisely stayed in the shade while Betty, Kris and I went out into the mid-day sun!
After leaving the gardens we went by Kris's house so I could meet his wife Pam. I enjoyed talking with her and seeing her collection of miniature treasure boxes. (You know how I am about miniatures of any kind!) I have never seen anything like these items. They come in all kinds of shapes and colors and each one opens up to
Sunken Gardens
The Sunken Gardens in Lincoln, NE reveal either a little treasure inside or a place to put one. I will be keeping an eye out for these as I shop across the country.
August 2-4—Spent these days resting from traveling, doing some writing and a lot of visiting with Jerry and Betty. Jerry and Betty have a huge back yard with a great garden. We kept eating tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden. Um-m good!
Bootsie—I'm glad we have stopped rolling for awhile. I am getting better at this traveling bit, but still don't have much appetite while we are on the move. It does get interesting to look out of the window and see different sights a lot of nights. Marty and I are also getting used to each other. I have been trying to train her when to go to bed and get up, but she isn't very cooperative. I start trying to herd her to the bedroom about 9 pm, but she just says she isn't ready to go to bed yet! I finally gave up and now I just go to sleep in what used to be her chair. (We got the chair thing straightened up first thing!) I try Pretty Lily
There were several varieties and colors of water lilies at the Sunken Gardens. I couldn't resist taking pics of them! to get her up about 6:30 am, but she just mumbles and turns over. Sometimes she gets up, goes into the bathroom, then gets right back into bed again. I have worked on this issue several days, but haven't gotten anywhere, yet. She has started this thing about putting all the toys in a little box and telling me to put them back when I am through playing. Hah! That'll be the day! I'll have to keep you posted on how the training is going.
August 5—Today Jerry and Betty took me downtown Lincoln. We met Russ for lunch at a sandwich place called Doozy's. They make great sandwiches! I had a vegetarian one to die for. Doozy's is the “in” place for the locals and college students. Then we drove to part of the oldest section of Lincoln where some old warehouses have been converted to specialty shops. I'm glad a lot of cities are doing that now.
Our next stop was a tour of the the capitol building. This is the first state capitol building that I have toured. It is a beauty, too, one that Nebraskans can be proud of. The tower of the
Jerry, Betty and Kris
The sun was bright and hot at the Sunken Gardens! building has a dome on top with a statue of a sower on top of that. The sower, of course, represents the agriculture of the state. Inside the building are wonderful mosaic murals and floors, busts of famous Nebraskans, and lovely marble walls and floors. I was impressed with the whole thing. Russ who works for the state, knows the building inside and out and was a great tour guide. He took us to the Governors office where I could photograph the waiting area. While I was taking a picture of the mural and huge fireplace, the governor himself stepped out of his inner office for a moment. I had my back turned and missed him!! Rats! Russ thought it was funny!
While touring the capitol, we learned that the Governor's mansion was also open for a tour. Betty said she and Jerry had lived in Lincoln 40 years and had never seen the Mansion. Fortunately, it was just across the street from the capitol, so we hot-footed over there. It is a beautiful house, naturally. We got to tour the grounds, the first floor and the basement. I don't know how many governors open their houses to

July 6—Spent another day just talking with Uncle Jerry and Betty. Russ and Lori, their son Cole and his friend Megan came by and added to the visiting. I have surely enjoying being here and getting to know everyone better. I'm so blessed to have so many great relatives.
July 7-8—Leaving Lincoln, I drove to Omaha and crossed the Missouri River (again) to get to Council Bluffs, Iowa. This time I am visiting a long-time friend that I haven't seen for many years. Bonnie and I used to work together when I was training to be a Personnel Specialist in the Veterans Administration in the mid-70's. I saw her once again about 10 years later. We have kept in touch long time and it was great to see her again. Her son Robert is a computer whiz and is majoring in that subject in college. We had a great time talking about old times and catching up on our lives since we last were together.

catching up
I love the picture of that frog. I think the Governor's Mansion in Nebreska is much larger than the one in Oklahoma. I've been in Oklahoma's governor's mansion a couple of times. It's nice, but it isn't nearly as big as the one you saw in Nebraska.
