Entrance to Garden of the Gods
That is Pikes Peak in the background May 27—Today it was back to Manitou for another painting class. This time it was about texture. I learned a lot about different things to use to add texture to paint, including instant coffee! We painted Southwest themes and I did a wall with a rustic ladder in front of two adobe buildings. When I showed it to Susan , she liked it and asked if she could have it. I was amazed (and flattered) that she wanted it, so she got an early birthday present.
May 28-29—Inspired by the texture class, I started two more paintings, this time of aspen trees, complete with rough trunks. I think they are looking pretty good. While I was painting, Cali was enjoying the cool days outside.
Cali—I don't really understand why sometimes Mommy lets me go outside and other times she doesn't. Still, I am excited about being able to run around again. I have been sitting on my box on her bed watching the birds and squirrels through the window. Now I get to chase them! Note: for those who may be concerned, she never catches them!
H-m-m, Mommy interrupted me! Anyway, there is this great tree behind our house Hiking the Garden
I took a hiking path up a bit to get a better view. and I have been practicing my climbing! I'm getting pretty good at it, but it is a bit tricky to get down! I also like to lay on the porch of the little house that we are parked next to. I can see a lot from there. I like the weather here. It is cool and Mommy says I am not shedding so much.
May 30—Susan and I drove to Pueblo to see her nephew Andrew, in a high school baseball game. We didn't get to see him pitch. He played left field in this game. I did the peanuts and hot-dog routine and enjoyed it. It has been years since I've been to a high school baseball game. The last time Tim was the pitcher. Tim and Priscilla also came, so I got to see them again. Ditto Rachel and Julian, Bonnie and Larry. Sadly, Andrew's team lost.
May 31—Back to Pueblo again. This time at Bonnie and Larry's house for a get-together on Memorial Day. We ate (again!) and just talked. Jacque, Robert and Shade were there, along with Tiffany who just drove in from college with all her laundry. She fell asleep on the living
Kissing Camels
You may have to use your imagination for this one. room floor.
June 1—Today I visited Garden of the Gods. This park may be one of the best known city parks in the U.S. The man who owned most of the property willed it to Colorado Springs when he died with the request that no entrance fee would ever be charged. The park is huge with many unusual red and gray rock formations. There are paved walkways as well as hiking trails. Rock climbers can get special permission to climb some of the rock walls. The landscaping is lovely.
One can drive all around the park, ride a city bus, ride bicycles, hike and/or picnic. I walked about three miles through and around the rock formations, stopped to watch some of the rock climbers and passed a group of children on a nature outing. They seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. I confess I don't understand rock climbers. I respect them, but also think they are crazy! It looks like a lot of hard work to me. I feel the same about those who run marathons.
Another interesting picture I got was of a family on those two-wheel motor things. (I think they are called segways?)
Balancing Rock
One of the more spectacular rocks in the
Garden The Mom started to apologize for getting the way of my photographing and I told her I was taking a picture of them, not the rocks. She laughed and waved then. They looked like they were having a ball! What a great way to get around.
All the many times I have been in Colorado Springs, I had never before visited this park; I don't know why. I would encourage anyone else not to miss it.
June 2—I spent the day getting ready to leave and head south to New Mexico and a long awaited visit to Taos. Time for one last dinner with Susan. I was a little teary-eyed when she brought me back to the park. As usual these days, I was up late, but had everything ready to go by the time I went to bed.

Such good pictures
I did not know that, that the man made sure no one was every charged a fee. That's great. Yep, I can see the gift shop! That is also a really great shot of Cali.
