Driving Home - The story of how God provides!
We woke up early on Tuesday morning, August 4th, packed the car, ate breakfast, packed up the kid and dog, said a tearful good-bye to our family and hit the road. The journey was pretty uneventful. The straps on our car-topper bag kept flapping, so somewhere in Iowa we decided to pull off at a rest area and have a look-see. Jon did his thing popped back in the car, I reversed, put the car in drive, gave it some gas and the engine just revved............I looked at Jon and said “something is wrong with this car”. We managed to get it rolling and it went into gear and off we went. It continued to do the same thing at each stop and we continued to get more nervous. We had to make it to North Platte, Nebraska, our resting point for that part of the trip. We continued on, hoping that our car would not just up and quit on us...in the middle of no where. We were almost to our destination. We sat there discussing what we should do. I happened to look up in the sky and see
a beautiful set of clouds in the sky. I mentioned them to Jon and he thought they were really cool too. We had never seen clouds look the way these clouds looked. Jon got the camera out and snapped a picture. He looked at it and said “you've got to see this”. I looked at the tiny camera screen and there it was, a picture of a dove cloud. I total sense of peace came over me at that moment and I knew everything would be okay. God was in control and He would make everything work out.
We made it to North Platte and the next morning Jon met with a transmission guy, who turned out to be really nice and explained what the problem was and told us what he would recommend. He didn't even charge Jon for the time he had spent diagnosing the car. Jon told me that we would need a transmission rebuild (a.k.a - spending a lot of money). We knew this meant that we needed to get a new car (yikes!!!). We had a decision to make: Do we go to Denver, a 4 hour drive and our intended next stop or
Mom's garden
I so enjoyed this garden while I was there. My mom has a super green thumb do we drive to Sandy, UT, where my Uncle and Aunt live, an 11 hour drive? We both felt that we needed to be near family so we picked Sandy, UT and prayed that our car would make it. We called my Aunt Karen, to let her know we would be coming, and she told us she would be praying too.
The drive went....well. We tried to make only necessary stops and took it slow. We pulled off the highway in Sandy around 8:30pm. At our first stop light the car would barely go. When we finally made it to my Uncle and Aunts driveway, white knuckled, the car would not even go up the drive! We ended up havig to back in! Our car was DONE and we had just barely made it to our destination. It was just ANOTHER sign that God was taking care of us.
To make a very long story short, we bought a new car in a day and a half. We're very happy with how it turned out and are SO happy that we have amazing members of our family, who love us very much!
