Leaving Louisville, we headed towards Cincinnati, OH (not stopping at the distillery as planned giving they were all out of the way and...oh yes, we had another late start!)...When we entered the state, the usual signs for the Visitors Center were not posted, nor did we have any information for the city given we had thrown out OH Triple A books out after leaving the State on the way out West..thinking we would be heading a different way back. So, our first though once we arrived in the city was to find a guide to get us around...we went to city hall, a random Kroger building that we were directed to (Kroger is apparently this big supermarket/everything-you-need chain around that area), and finished with the library where we received information and a map for all of the surrounding libraries...But no map or guide. Everyone kept reiterating that there HAD been a visitor center, but no one was quite sure where it was. Finally, we stopped at a hotel to "check rates" (and see if they had any pamphlets). This attempt was more successful, landing us a city guide that made us decide to keep driving. We grabbed a quick coffee at
a friendly cafe and then got on the road towards Columbus.
*We arrived in Columbus and had better luck with a city guide...Though the office was closed, they had pamphlets outside with things to see and do. We consulted our guide for a hotel/motel, given the rates on hotwire and other websites weren't the price we were looking for to stay our last night. We settled on the German Village Inn on the outskirts of the city's German town, of course owned by an Indian family...who "no, would not give discounts to Germany speakers" (can't hurt to ask!)...Luckily the motel was in walking distance of a number of pubs and restaurants, given Germanville and the Brewery District are right next door. Though it was pouring outside (and had been all day), we walked around to explore our options, settling on reasonably priced bar food and drinks in a more lively atmosphere. We stayed for about an hour eating and chatting (somehow we still have things to talk about) before walking back to watch Bruno online and go to sleep.
*The next morning we left around 11:00 and drove about 6 hours, stopping in Cleveland for gas and at
a rest stop outside of Rochester, NY for quick food and to stretch before finishing out the drive. We arrived back in Syracuse around 19:00 with exactly 8005 miles put on the car we had gotten new from the rental place and quickly unloaded the car to have it ready to return the next morning. And as a present from Katy for driving the full 8005, today Can goes for his first full body massage.....with the only happy ending being an incredible summer 😊
