Many vacations surround food. Whether it’s dining out,
cooking at your campsite, or experiencing the unique tastes and flavors of a certain region, food is everywhere. With so many amazing cuisines and unique dishes to sample, it’s no wonder food festivals are popping up everywhere! If you’ve never been to one, you’re truly missing out. So why not make a list of the top food festivals both here and abroad and start eating your way across the globe?
Check out my top picks!
Atlantic City This festival tops my list, perhaps because I’m a Jersey girl. Atlantic City is known for its casinos, awesome beaches, and boardwalk. But in November, this city is home to a food festival known as the Ultimate Food Experience. The event is hosted at the Borgata hotel and casino and showcases not only delicious lunches and dinners but also chef-lead demos and cooking classes where visitors will learn to create their favorite dishes from the festival. And Atlantic City wouldn’t be complete without some star power. This food festival hosts some of the world’s most well-known chefs including Wolfgang Puck and Bobby Flay.
Hawaii As if the sun, sand, and surf weren’t reason enough to visit Hawaii, the island’s food and wine festival is a one of a kind experience. This festival, held in October, connects three of Hawaii’s big islands and showcases some of the world’s best chefs, mixologists, and winemakers. If you’re looking for a festival that offers both delicious food and exotic drinks, look no further. Guests also experience some of the Big Island’s culture and history. Between the gorgeous views and delicious cuisines and beverages, this food festival really does have it all.
Chicago Believe it or not, this windy city isn’t just known for its awesome
deep dish pizza. Chicago hosts a smoke out in the summer that is any BBQ lover’s paradise. Not only will guests indulge in smoked meats and BBQ slathered goodies, but also craft beers. This festival is hosted by the local Bub City restaurant and Joe’s Bar. But this festival doesn’t stop at food. Bring your cowboy boots and hat because this weekend-long gathering is also home to some of the best country music around.
Arizona Tacos aren’t reserved for just
Tuesdays anymore. The Arizona Taco Festival, held in October, gives guests the chance to think outside of the traditional taco shell and savor creative and unique versions of this popular Mexican dish. And what goes better with tacos than tequila? You’ll find tequila tasting, as well as traditional and exotic margarita options. The festival is great for families and offers games for kids, taco eating contests, and taco competitions. Even four-legged friends get in on the action with a Chihuahua beauty pageant.
Cayman Islands These Caribbean Islands are home to the Cayman Cookout. Held in January, this festival is every foodie's dream. Some of the world’s most creative chefs flock to the islands to participate in this extravagant cookout. Hosted on the Cayman Islands Seven Mile beach, the backdrop is the perfect setting for the four-day event. Guests are able to walk along the beach, meeting chefs and tasting unique and classic recipes and drinks from around the world. Some guests will attend exclusive dinners, mixology courses, and cooking demonstrations.
Australia The land down under is known for its wildlife and diverse landscape. But it’s also home to the
Noosa Food and Wine Festival which is a must-see for tourists. Not only will visitors taste some of the areas best wines and recipes, but you’ll also experience the culture and people of this fascinating region. If you’re looking for a beachfront festival, Noosa won’t disappoint. Guests weave in and out large tents set up directly on the sand. But that’s just part of the fun. Musical entertainment will liven up the event, along with lunch on Hastings Street and the Hinterland Food Trails.
Taste the World There’s no better way to experience a culture than tasting regional recipes and local favorites. Attending food festivals is like transporting you into the thick of the culture and its people - no matter where you travel. So whether you’re looking to remain in the continental US or travel abroad, these are just some of the amazing food festivals you can, and should, experience.
