We were glad to see some human life. You can tell how desolate this area is.
Today was a travel day. We left Hill City, SD at 9:25 heading to Riverton, WY via Thunder Basin National Grassland. It was a 65-mile scenic route through the grassland on Route 450. Fortunately it was not gravel! It was a pretty desolate route, no traffic, VERY windy, barren land with a few cattle & sheep scattered about, and some oil wells. Once in a while we would see a ranch. Tim kept telling Carolyn they could probably buy a building site out here. Carolyn replied, "Only if I can have my trees." One big operation we came upon was the Thunder Basin Coal Mine.

We arrived in Riverton before 4 p.m., having driven about 350 miles. Temperature dropped below 60 and it was raining. We had to dig out the long pants and jackets before going to dinner. Enjoyed some relaxing time before tackling the Grand Tetons tomorrow.
