Day 8 – Saturday, Aug 25
th, 2012
During the 2 days we had been in Yellowstone, we had not explored the geysers near the lodge. We walked over to watch old faithful go off 1 more time and see some of the other geysers. When we arrived at old faithful, a ranger lead program was just starting. We listened to her as she talked about old faithful’s history and how they calculate when old faithful will erupt. Once the eruption was over, we went with the ranger on a tour of the some of the other geysers in the area. We were not able to complete the tour because we had to check out of the lodge at 11:00.
Every year on August 25
th, Yellowstone employees celebrate Christmas in August. I had heard they decorate the lodge for Christmas that day and have a party. Before we checked out, we went back inside the Old Faithful Inn to see the decorations. As we walked in a lady was just starting a tour of the Inn. We wanted to take the tour but were not able too because of time. We

Once we left Yellowstone, we headed back thru the Teton National Park. The smoke was really bad in the park. One of the rangers we talked too said it was worse than it had been. He said the fires in Idaho had gotten worse. The mountains were still so pretty even with all the smoke. We stopped and had a picnic by Jenny Lake before going on to Jackson Hole.
I had read there was a tram you could ride to the top of a mountain in Jackson Hole and I wanted to ride it. Mama didn’t want too, so once we were there I rode up on the tram while mama went in some of the shops.
After the tram ride, we headed into Jackson and checked into the hotel. We ate supper at a barbeque place then looked around the town a little bit before going back to the hotel.
When we got back to the hotel, mama went to bed. It was still way to early to go to bed so I went outside and called my brother. When I was talking to

When I finished talking to him, an older lady walked up to me and asked if I wanted to hear something funny. She said her husband was bad about walking up to statues and talking to them. She thought that was what I was doing since she didn’t see the phone in my hand. She said she was thinking at least her husband wasn’t the only person that talked to statues. Hehehe I bet she was thinking I was a crazy person standing there talking to a statue. I talked to her for a while before going back in the hotel room. She and her husband were from Oregon and were going to Yellowstone the next day. She said as they were driving through Idaho the smoke and fires were so bad it was hard to see at times.
