Not bad for your town hall!!
Madison is the capital city of the state of Wisconsin aka the badger state (dont ask?). It is a college town of about 200 000 people so its quite small for a US city.

Its really good too, with lots of green areas, bars, restaurants and unusal shops. Its also right between two lakes which make it excellant to spend a few days although you might struggle to spend a week here. The place is really bustling and has a cosmopolitan feel to it in no small part due to the University of Wisconsin.

The Uni has its student union on the shores of one of the lakes so we spent one night there drinking cheap pitchers of domestic beer and watching the lake. If you get bored with the bar you can always hire a canoe and go on the lake I don't know how any of the students pass their exams.

Other than that the town is just nice with no edge and none of the obvious poverty that greets you in New York and Chicago.

the cows...
hi, i'm from madison, and i thought i'd fill you in on the cow question... every year there is a competition where hundreds of local artists submit design ideas for decorating a cow. the winning artists decorate their cow, it is displayed around town for a few months, and then the cows are auctioned off to benefit various local charities/childrens hospitals/etc. just thought you might like to know! :-) laura

That's sorted that question out. Thanks very much. Madison is a really smart city by the way.
