The Paddle Steamer
this is the boat we took on our tour of Vancouver harbour Sorry for posting nothing in the past few days but the places we have been staying in have had no internet connection.
Turns out the blog I posted about Vancouver didn't turn up on the website so I am going to tell you about it now.
When we arrived in Vancouver we checked into our hotel-the hotel sylvia. It is a good and reccomended hotel and we enjoyed our stay there, but it is let down by the fact it doesn't have air conditoning. (Alex where did you stay?). After we had checked in we went onto the beach, which meant that we had been on two sides of the pacific at the same time. (the blog we posted about the last two days in NZ - when we stayed with our friends the Forrests in Auckland - failed to post, so we'll come back to that.) After that we went to stanley park and got lost. For a long time. We eventually had to resort to using our dad's compass on his iPhone. Eventually we got out, so we had supper and went back to our hotel to sleep.
The next day we did a harbour cruise around Vancouver
harbour on a steam powered paddle boat. After that we went to the aquarium, which is very good, better than london aquarium, mostly because there were beluga whales and dolphins that did tricks. After that we went out to dinner in gastown, at a resteraunt called chill winston, and after that we had a great (but very rich) cheescake in trees organic, we think the mango flavour is best (thanks for the reccomendation lamby!).
On the final day staying in Vancouver we got up early to get on a train to Seattle. The train is officially the slowest train in the world, meaning it took 6 hours to get to seattle. As soon as we got out of Seattle train station we saw the president of the united states drive past in his Cadillac, waving and smiling at us. Cool. Then we found somewhere to stay and after that we had lunch and went on a tour of the harbour. In Vancouver we had also been on a harbour tour and we say that the Vancouver harbour is cooler, beacause it has more seals in it and ,even though it is smaller, it is much prettier. Later on we
Another harbour
this is seatle harbour, could you tell went up the 'space needle', seattle's signiture tower. Compared to the tokyo tower it is actually better, because it looks cooler and isn't a copy of a french tower. Then we went to bed.
The next day we went to the Boeing factory, which is ABSOLUTELY awesome and I highly reccomend it. The main building, by volume, is the largest building on earth, not suprisingly because they make all the commercial boeings (apart from the 737) inside that buildings. We saw the new type of 747s, 777s and the new 787s in the production line. It was awesome. Then we went to the zoo. It was good, but london zoo is slightly better, although we did get to see snow leopards playfighting, which is very unusual because they are usually asleep. We also saw grizzly bears. After that we split with our dad and we went to the Seattle aquarium, which is actually very good considering it's size. They seemed to presume that you know what all the animals are though, because they don't label what many of them are. Honor bought a fourth cuddly toy and now, finally, she's bankrupt (yup gramps, she spent it already). Then we went
The Boeing Factory
You can only .see about 1/6 of the factory in this photo and, yes, it is bigger than it looks to bed. Again (we seem to do that a lot.)
The next day we had a great breakfast at 5 spots (we reccomend the pancakes most). After that we set off on the drive to Mt. Rainer but as soon as we had left Seattle we saw a big sign saying boeing 737 so we stopped off by it and ended up right beside the museum of flight. In the museum of flight we did some awesome simulators and saw an F22-Raptor and F15 (america's best fighter jets). (the rest of the museum is awesome too, especially the blackbird stealth bomber!). Back on course we drove to the place we had booked to stay in right by the Mt. Rainer National Park. When we arrived there was no one else there. Whilst our mum checked in she was also cancelling our second night there. It was bearable. After checking in we went to a pizza place in a town that was almost deserted because the timber mill there had been shut down. In there we had a massive pizza and played arcade games called 'EggVentures' and 'Extreme Hunting (a game where you shoot black bears and elk.)
The next day
The 'Space Needle'
Please comment on where you rank the space needle compared with your favourite towers. we did a walk round Mt. Rainier and after that we drove down the Cascades mountains to Mt. St. Helens and saw the complete destrution that the eruption caused. Then we drove down to Vancouver the 2nd which is right next to portland. Then we found a random hotel called days inn, which is suprisingly good, considering it's price. That's all from washington, driving down to Oregon today. Harry and Thomas.

A very good blog. And just in time as we were all about to die from Blog Deprivation Syndrome (BDS). Quick thoughts: - How can you get lost in a park? Yosemite Park yes, but not Hyde Park. - Is it very hot, if you are missing air conditioning? Normally Canada is under four feet of snow. However, I met someone just back from Moscow where the temperature is 40 degrees and nobody has ever heard of a/c. - Nice of Obama to turn out to greet you. He was presumably told of how you had studied the U.S. presidential election. - I have a friend who lives in Richland near Mt. St Helens. The street is called On The Green, but after the eruption it was changed to On The Grey - Look forward to seeing you soonish and hearing more. xx H.
