Alan, Marjo, and Winston After dinner, Natalie and I sometimes take a stroll around the RV park. This park includes a tent camping area, 20 or 30 permanent residents, 32 transient RV sites with full hookups (power, sewer, and water) and four little cabins that are basically wooden tents with a bed or two. The transient sites are arranged with a road to maneuver long RVs into and out of the sites. This road makes a fairly nice little track for taking a stroll and maybe meeting some neighbors.
One of these after dinner strolls took us by quite a collection of toys alongside a very nice Class A coach. There was a towed Cadillac SUV, two kayaks, two electric bicycles, and a classic Harley Davidson with a sidecar. To top off the picture, the coach had a tall flagpole mounted on the ladder at the back, and on top of the flagpole was a United States flag. Right below it was a “Let’s Go Brandon” flag. When we walked by, the owner was out and doing some work on his bike (the Harley if you’re unsure what a bike is) and we just had to talk to him.
We chatted for a couple minutes with Alan, mostly about his flags, then he asked us to wait a minute and went into his RV. While he was inside, his full-size and very friendly poodle, named Wilson, greeted us exuberantly. Alan emerged a minute later with a handful of doggy treats and proceeded to have Wilson perform some of his tricks.
Then we learned about the sidecar. It seems the sidecar isn’t for Alan’s wife, Marjo. It’s for Wilson! Imagine that: Alan driving the Harley, Marjo riding behind him, and Wilson sitting proudly in the sidecar, wearing his tinted goggles. Quite a picture. A few days later, I mentioned something about wanting a picture, so Marjo emailed one to me and it should be attached to this blog entry. (The picture was taken in their home driveway; but at least you can see the novel idea is real.) We mentioned this story to another friend a few days later, and they told us about a boxer riding in a rumble seat, complete with a Red Baron scarf around his neck.
A few days later on our after-dinner stroll, Alan was outside working on something and we stopped to chat again, this time talking about a hood bender (not a fender bender – the hood was bent and ugly) with his Cadillac. After a few minutes, another couple strolling by just couldn’t resist asking what happened to the Caddy. They were a really interesting couple here for only one night from Canada, and our little discussion went on until almost 11:00. Alan even brought out his little propane campfire and it was a really interesting discussion. Among other things, we learned Trudeau is not very popular in Canada, but they use the same voting machines that work so well in the US. Also, some Canadians really do end almost every clause spoken with the exclamation “Eh?” Yet another interesting and enjoyable day in the RV park.
