We got a later start today, leaving Forks, WA about 11am on a warm and sunny day, so we had the top down on the Miata right away. Our first stop was the Hoh Rainforest, just 12 miles south of Forks then 18 miles east off of Hwy. 101. The 18 mile drive was a beautiful, rolling, curving narrow road through high, thick trees; just perfect for the Miata! There's a $15 fee at the gate which is good for a week at any of the Olympic Park areas. It surprised me that the large parking lot was already full so we drove on to the overflow parking. There were a variety of hiking trails available and we chose one listed as a 1 1/2 hour hike. It was a beautiful walk through lush rainforest and ... read more

Our visit to Westport, Washington was my first trip to a Washington ocean beach. I have been to beaches all over the world, but never to one in Washington, which really is sad considering that I lived in Washington for 10 years. On top of that, the last time I got to walk along the ocean waters on a beach I was in Playa de Carmen, Mexico in 2008. For someone that has a seashell bathroom and a lighthouse front room, going 3 1/2 years without visiting the ocean signals too busy of a life..... The day we decided to go was supposed to be beautiful and sunny, but like most days on the west coast of Washington, ended up cloudy and wet. This didn't stop us though, we trekked on determined to spend time at ... read more

For some reason it was difficult to get my rest last night. Maybe a combination of nervousness and excitement. In the early moring I made my way over to the marina and boarded the Hula Girl with 11 other guests. It was a bit intimidating at first because I was the least prepared with the way I dressed. Everyone had knee-high rubber boots on and heavy "slickers" like the Gordon's fisherman. I was wearing jeans with low-cut hiking sneakers. I wondered if they knew something I didn't. Getting out of the harbor was rough. I quickly turned green as the boat bounced around on the waved churned up by the river, low tide, and wind all colliding together. I wondered if I was going to lose the breakfast I never ate. Another "first timer" on the ... read more

This morning I am saying goodbye, finishing my weaving, and then catching the Lady Express back to Fields Point where I left my rental car. I just read the Holden Prayer of Farewell again - "Lord God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen." After a spectacular ferry ride downlake I drove over to Chelan to pick up my smoked trout from Joe. He gave me a delicious sample. YUM! I followed the Presbyterian pastor's advice and drove Hwy 2 through the mountains toward Seattle. It was beautiful ... read more
