It's funny how things happen sometimes. Yesterday I logged on here to catch up on some travel blogs from my recent trips. Are there more important things I can be doing? Yeah, probably. But the travel blog was one of my favorite adventures and I love writing. There's no shame in doing something that gives you joy and causes no one any harm. While exploring the back-end features of travelblog.org (unfamiliar to me now after more than a decade away), I stumbled across the inbox of Private Messages. Being Myself I picked up a hitchiker Friday night on the way home from the bars. We didn't know each other--which is strange in this tight community--but I'd seen him at the Old Timers earlier in the night, and he was with some guys who I've known since I was a little kid. Bar hopping in Sedro. That was the night. My oldest friend, Matt Steinman, and I met up around 10 or so and wandered around the bars in town seeing what we'd see. At the Old Timers we saw a lot of great old friends and drank $1.25 cans of Schmidt. Then we wandered down to Cues & Brews and saw even more buddies. US states that I've explored That map over there is all the U.S. states that I have visited. I've traveled through many more of them and seen enough of the U.S.A. with my own eyes to feel content. I guess it's high time for me to venture out and see some other countries, eh? So, I've been dreaming about this trip for years, talking it up for months, planning it for weeks, and procrastinating the whole damn time. Even if I wanted to, I can't put things off any longer. 'Cause I bought my ticket today. Hours of shopping at over 20 travel sites led me to a $530 one-way ticket on China Air from San Francisco to Bangkok. It's a 22 hour trip with a four-hour stopover in Taipei, Taiwan. Hell, even the flight sounds ... read more
