That's One Big Tree !
Me and the Big Tree ! We’re on day eleven now and I can’t believe how fast it’s all happening!! This is why I wanted to have a “diary” of the trip, so that Tim and I could always look back and remember every single detail. It’s so much fun being able to share the trip with our friends and family and I’m glad everyone’s enjoying it ! We started off this morning in Ellingsburg, Washington at the Flying J Truck Stop. On the way to the showers, (that still sounds funny to me !) Kayla and Emily got a whiff of some bacon frying in the restaurant next to the truck stop. They couldn’t stop talking about how good it smelled so we ended up staying there for breakfast. Tim and I had the bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, Kayla had the french toast breakfast and Emily enjoyed a fresh omelet. It was really good, especially because I didn’t have to cook it !! On the way out to the RV we all realized that it was pretty cold and maybe we weren’t dressed accordingly. On down the road a little bit we saw a sign that said it was 42 degrees and so we thought
The Other Side !!
Me and the other side of the tree ! we might better change before we get to the first stop. Oh Lord, the only piece of winter clothing I have is that hideous orange hoodie I had to buy at Mt. Rushmore, looks like that was going to be my attire for the day ! We soon come upon Snoqualmie Falls Park and the Salish Lodge and Spa. Guess what, It’s in the book and we got to mark it off !! I’m hot on your trail Lynn !! It was a quaint little place and offered many amenities. After seeing the Lodge and Spa we were off to Seattle to see the Space Needle. In route, we happen to look over to the right and see this HUGE tree trunk sitting on what looks like some type of train car or something like that. We turn around and go check it out and sure enough that’s what it was; so we got out to explore it. We ended up taking a few pictures, reading the informational kiosk and then we continued on our way. Tim is truck’in it down I-90 and we make it into Seattle in record time. Does that surprise anyone ? Once we get to
Information on the big tree !
This tells all about the tree's history and all that stuff ! the Space Needle entrance, I start looking up and thinking to myself “Ugggghhhhhh, I know they are going to make me do it !”. I immediately started feeling a little queezy but I thought “I really need to do this since I chickened out of the caves, but I really don’t want to !”. We got to the ticket booth and everyone turned to me and gave me that look and so I stepped up to the window, like a big girl, and bought myself a ticket. I made it all the way to the top and back down without incident and everybody was really proud of me. While we were at the top, Kayla and Emmy had a “Diet Red Bull”, I ate some ice cream dippers and Tim savored an ice cold Budweiser. The views were incredible and the weather ended up getting warmer as the day passed by so it wasn't so bad up there. We were 520 feet in the air, with 360 degrees views and you could see all of Seattle and I must say it was a gorgeous day in Seattle !! Not a raindrop in sight ! Next, we went over to the
I Don't Want to Go to Bed Mommy !
Emmy and Kayla ready for bedtime ! city's most celebrated new attraction, Experience Music Project, which was at the base of the Space Needle. It was designed and funded by Microsoft co-founder, Frank Gehry in 2000. It is a state-of-the-art rock museum and was built as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. It had a lot of music memorabilia and stuff like that on display but other than that it was kinda lame. Next, we were off to the Pike Place Market in the heart of Seattle. Well, it wasn’t so easy trying to park a 36-foot motor home in downtown Seattle. We had to drive around for about 30 minutes before we could find anywhere to park and then we ended up on a steep hill about 3-4 blocks away from the Market. It didn’t matter to us once we reached the market because it was awesome. We walked around for two hours looking at all the unique items and we bought a few things too ! If you are ever in Seattle, you have to go to the Pike Place Market ! It was time to head out and start making our way towards Mount St. Helens. The girls were quick to remind me that it
Crossing Bridge Into Seattle !
This is a shot coming into Seattle. had been several days since we’d had a Wal-Mart run and their list was growing by the minute. About an hour later, we pulled into the Wal-Mart parking lot for some fingernail polish remover, facial cleanser, lotion, Uno cards, Phase 10 cards, and a memory foam mattress for the pull out couch ! You know my little divas just couldn’t live without all this stuff ! Finally, Tim gets us back on track and on our way to Silver Lake, Washington where we ended up staying the night in a very remote RV park. I say we "ended up" staying there because Tim won't let me forget the fact that I kinda got us, not lost, but just kinda what I would call "off the beaten path a little". After about an hour and a half of riding through the "boonies", it was really late and really dark and we were so tired, I saw this sign lit up and so we pulled in to check it out. Tim knocked on the front door a few times and a man came to the door and told him to just find somewhere to sleep and we could take care of everything
Salish Lodge & Spa !
We had to stop here because it was in "the book" ! in the morning. So we drive up the hill, scraping bottom the whole way up, and find a place to hook-up. We moved the girls from our bed onto their new comfy fold-out-bed and tucked them in for the night. I happen to look out the front window and all I could see was the moon reflecting over a small lake and an old shack looking house floating at the end of the dock. I swear it was a scene straight out of the original Friday 13th movie !! I knew I wasn't going to get much sleep so I decided to join Tim and have a beer (disgusting !). About three sips and fifteen minutes later I was out like a light. As a matter of fact, the next thing I saw was light, daylight, thank goodness ! It turns out we we’re only about 15 miles from Mount St. Helens and the Lava Tubes so technically we were never "lost" at all. Take Care… Candy
