It is no secret that we visit Seattle at least three times a year. We go for each of our birthdays (Feb. and Oct.), as well as our anniversary (June). In fact, the big 20th is coming up in June, 2015. Many people ask, "Why Seattle?" We answer, "Why not?"
We started coming to Seattle on our honeymoon, 1995. We have visited Seattle at least once a year since. It is our favorite American city, and perhaps, one of our two or three favorite cities in the entire world!
Is it the food or fine dining? The food and dining choices are excellent or even better. We love the Tom Douglas restaurants, and have tried them all. We also love the fresh seafood here. The bakeries are without peer.
I love Le Panier, better than anything in France!!!
Is it the weather? We do not mind the wind and rain, as it is an easy town to navigate. We walk almost everywhere. It is a great city for walking! And when the weather is nice, it is really nice. More sunglasses are purchased here per capita than any other American city!!!! Seattle has a charm of its
own, much like San Francisco, Sydney, Cape Town, and Rio. These cities share their walkability, and diversity. Each intersection or crossroad offers a new adventure so it seems.
Is it the shopping? Shopping here is upscale, always interesting, never cheap, but lots of fun. We have our favorite spots. We have done our fair share to help the economy here.
No, it is none of those things. So what is it? The people we have met. You know who you are. Some are old friends from California. Some we have met through shopping and dining. Some we have met on trips to various parts of the world. I have cousins here too!
The common denominator is people. This is the link we have with cities and people around the globe. Though the food or sights may attract us here initially, it is definitely the people that get us to come back. This is equally true for places like Kauai, Tokyo, Vegas, Kuala Lumpur, Siem Reap, Bangkok, and Cape Town. You know who you are!
Cape Town, home of Barry the V!!!
We are so fortunate to have friends like you around the world. Places are
only places. But the people are uniquely different, equally enjoyable, never boring. Thank you for being our friends. Many years can pass between our visits. It does not matter. The bond has been created. We cherish you!!!
