Last week Bea asked me if we were getting excited about moving on, and I said no, not at all. By Monday that feeling had changed in both Bob and I. This last week everyone is talking about where they’re going next (Bea and Barney don’t have another project until January, and Rose and Ron aren’t going to do any more projects, because of Rose’s health) and we’re talking about routes, and what has to be done before Thursday, and we’re ready to be moving on! The rain makes it a little easier, I suppose, but I am going to miss being so close to the ocean. But I’m excited to see what’s next…what we’ll be seeing, and who we’ll be meeting. We’re going to a conference center in northern California, but our plans are to ... read more

I must have sounded very whiny about being homesick, because I got a lot of letters cheering me up! It wasn't one of those moods that engulfs you, just a shallow one that I waded around in for a couple days, and now I'm fine. It was wonderful to hear from so many people, and thank you thank you for your kind words about our blog. It's nice to know people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. Well, we are learning about Washington/Oregon rain, and it’s not rain like we’ve ever seen. The rain literally dumps from the sky. I’ve said before that the sky can go from sunny to cloudy in the blink of an eye, when it does that, the clouds may or may not have rain in them, and ... read more

The men have the wainscoting up in the dining hall, and it is so beautiful. They’ll put three coats of varnish on it, all low luster. And then they’re going to build benches to put in it, and eventually, tables. It’s fun to look at the boards on the wall, and see the different patterns in the wood (most of it is pine, but some is spruce) and know that they came right of the camp property. Jess (lake camp director) said he has people asking if he will come clear the logs off their property, and he can have that for lumber. It’s certainly different being in a place that has more lumber than they can use at this time! This afternoon the men ran some logs through the saw mill, and then tomorrow ... read more

We had a very social weekend~~the camp directors here had a wedding for their oldest daughter, right here at the camp. It began at 2:00, and ended at 10:00 with fireworks! It was a beautiful ceremony, and we didn’t stay there the whole time~~another good thing about having your home with you! We did show up again for the fireworks on the beach. Sunday was the birthday party for the camp director of the lake camp. That’s a lot of hours of being nice, and I almost think it’s harder for me than Bob!! On another entirely different note, we found some slugs in the lawn that were as big as my thumb. I’m not kidding. Bob said they’re as big as the carp back home!! It had rained the night before, and that must bring ... read more
