Blog 09-11-17 Anacortes, WA
Somewhere in this town there had to be a car wash, a laundromat, and cell service. We are right between La Conner and Anacortes so we have to go to either town to get coverage. Anacortes was our first choice because it is bigger and our chances of having what we wanted were better.
As we drove along the highway I spotted a snowcapped mountain in the distance to our east and I thought it was Mt Baker but wasn't sure. There was a park in town that was up high and served as a lookout point and from there you could see everything. On one side of the rock you could see the whole of Anacortes with it's substantial marina and on the other side the sound with all it's ships and Mt Baker in the background. Stunning scenes. Pictures
We headed to town and found the tourist information and asked about whale watching trips and a place on the water for lunch. Loaded with brochores we headed for a lunch spot that sounded perfect and it was. Casual yet nice, decent prices and really good food. We sat outside under and umbrella
(temp about 75, bright sun and no wind) and had a wonderful lunch of fish and chips. Ginnie had salmon and I had cod. Both great.
We found a laundromat and checked it out for big loads then got the car washed. The poor car had so much dirt on it we didn't know what color it was. After trailing along behind the motorhome for over 4,000 miles there is grime that you can't believe. After the wash we both swore the car ran along like a dream.
Time to head back to the kids in the camper, but we hadn't made a decision about the whale watching trip yet, the 2 we tried earlier were sold out for the next 2 days. I picked up the brochures we had in the camper and went about 5 miles to get cell service to call other companies. It was decided that we would call this one company in the morning as they had room on their 11 am sail.
By then it was feed the dogs then happy hour and we decided to go to the beach for sunset. We loaded the dogs in the car with our
chairs and drove to the beach, not too far but a long walk there and back.
After walking and smelling all the wonderful smells a beach has to offer we all settled down and watched the sun set behind the hills. It was a really pretty sunset and listening to the water lap on the rocks at the shore and the sea gulls calling made it really special. Pictures.
We settled down for the night. It has become our routine to go to bed with the sun and get up with the sun but with the sun setting earlier and coming up later, it makes for a longer sleep than I am used to. Ginnie is still enjoying the routine, so I'm glad to have time to write the blog without missing outside time.
