Sunday June 12 DC Day 9 I had planned on going to the Zoo today but they were having their gay pride celebration with the Gay Parade centered on Dupont Circle where the station for the Zoo is.......! Didn't want to come out of the station up into that.....and then have to walk through it to the Zoo. So I went to the Quantico Marine base where the National Museum of The Marine Corps museum is. Don't reckon there will be any Gay Pride celebration there. After that I went to eat at the "Old World Buffet" and got to enjoy my meal with 3 busloads of screaming kids. Seriously...... why do kids have to shout everything....can't they just talk. Finished the day by going back to my campground and doing some homework on The battle ... read more

A few photos of the Museum just outside of Quantico Marine Corps Base. My friend and I made a very quick trip through the museum as we had to catch a plane home. We missed a lot. A visitor really needs about 3 hours minimum to see everything and I believe that would still be going through fairly quickly. I hope to get a longer visit my next trip to Virginia.... read more

This was my first visit to the Marine Corps Base at Quantico and though getting to this race takes quite a bit of planning requiring a rental car and hotel, it was well worth the effort. The Marines always do everything better than everyone else and The Irish Sprint 10k was no exception. For such a small race, the turnout was well over 700 runners with most of them being Marines and family members who clearly walked to the race. I fully expected parking to be problematic race morning and was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of parking spaces right next to Butler Stadium, where the race started and finished.
