So, my first blog, where to start? Well, my Dad is in the military and my family and I have lived in many states of the US as well as Japan. (But I'll get to that in a sec) When I was about 9ish me and my Family went to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip, shortly after we moved to Japan. After we moved there, thats when the travel bug really bit me! We then vacationed down to Austrailia for some of the best days of my life! After we moved back to the states I went on another mission trip, this trime to Guatemala and this time, by myself. Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Hampton area of Virginia Possibly because of light traffic, we “dry camped” at the south parking lot of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. We want to make the crossing in the morning when we are fresh as this has been a long day - over 350 miles. Camping and overnight parking isn’t normally an option at the south end, but we prevailed on a nice security officer (the area has 24 hour security and is lighted) and got the thumbs up to stay the night. We “cooked” a wonderful sunset and dinner (hot dogs and a black bean salad) at our parking spot near the pier - our RV table window was so close to the bay as to make it seem like we were looking out a cruise ship window. Welcome to my travel blog. This will chronicle the journey I am making to South America starting tomorrow. I’m visiting an old friend who works in Pilar, Paraguay as a Peace Corps volunteer. They say Paraguay is not the most interesting country on the continent, but it should be interesting experiencing another culture, seeing what kind of work the Peace Corps is doing down there and we may hop across the border of Argentina or Brazil to see the Ingassu Falls, a sight I’m told makes Niagara look like a leaky faucet. The first part of my journey will be the drive to JFK Airport in New York. It is on the southern end of the Virginia Peninsula, bordering on Hampton Roads and Chesapeake Bay. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 146,437; but the U.S. Census' 2004 estimate shows that the city's population is 159,983. The former Native American community of Kecoughtan settled in 1610 in the Virginia Colony forms the basis for Hampton's claim to the oldest continuously occupied English settlement in North America.
