Day 16 - Boulder to Hanksville, UT

Total Miles: 86.4 (1054.2 miles total)

Another day riding, another challenge … mission
accomplished (till tomorrow when it all starts over
again). A surprisingly pleasant day - we made it to
the summit of Boulder mountain quicker and more easily
than we anticipated. As we summited, the ominous
storm clouds that had been looming all day decided to
burst, hail and lightening and scary riding conditions
for us. We spent the first half of the day hopping
from campground to campground, enjoying hot chocolate
and tea and good conversation with the different camp
hosts - thanks to everyone who helped us out today!

The afternoon brought less rain ( we saw a forest fire
started by a bolt of lightening) but the clouds loomed
all afternoon providing fantastic shade for our
fabulous ride through Capitol Reef. More downhill
riding, awesome rock formations, petroglyphs, the
historic Fruita Orchard District with its many fruit
bearing trees, waterfalls, towering red rock … we met
this guy who bakes the best bread in Utah in his
homemade brick oven in Cannesville, passed through the
outerspace looking landscape of grey sand/mountain
peaks with dirtbike tracks all over them … quite a
dynamic afternoon. We settled down for the evening at
Blondies in Hanksville (best milkshakes ever). They
let us sleep behind their restaurant and fill up
supplies for the long haul to Blanding (122 miles with
no services) … it will be a challenging next couple of
days.

strange vision
You two are like pony express riders from the mid 1800's... only the horse and human are merged into one...
