Torrey is the Eastern start of Utah Scenic Hwy 12, From outside Torrey the access to the Boulder Mts is Utah Hwy 12 of the Dixie National Forest, Southbound to Boulder.
At Torrey I drove uphill and quickly got into the Boulder Mts. It was late in the afternoon so I made camp at "Good Pine Camp"; a familiar old camp. This was a lower elevation with Ponderosa Pine dominating the vegetation. I took my camp nearby Utah 12 while a Forest Service road ran Eastbound from the same highway exit.
I relaxed with a big rum drink and some trail mix. I lucked out with a very nice sunset by my camp. It was very cool out so I slept well with my nice quilt over me.
The next morning I had my coffee and some important "goof off" viewing time.
Then I drove uphill to the higher elevations and soon got to the "scenic view A". There was a nice view of Utah including the distant Henry Mts. After a brief stop I drove uphill to get to the high elevation aspen trees. When I saw the "Mt Peak Camp" vacent, I decided
good pine camp
Boulder Mts
Dixie N Forest to make it an easy day and claim this wonderful camp with good view for me and Old Blue. The trail uphill , FS 3980, was about a mile long with rough places to cross on the way. At the top of the Mountain Peak I made camp by the small aspen trees. I had a good view back to Utah 12, with a primary view across the Utah lowlands and the distant Henry Mountains.
Later a truck with two hunters came up close to my camp, but did not disturb me. They circled around to look for elk. About thirty minutes later they drove down the mountain top and away. (No harm, no foul.)
Well, enough of the trail mix. I had plenty of time and wanted a big home cooked dinner. I used my propane stove (legal even with burn restrictions) and slowly cooked a nice supper. I got some walking and viewing while cooking. Afterward I had a good munch.
Later there were more walking and viewing. After sunset I had a nice cool sleep with my bed and quilt.
I started the next day with my morning coffee with a
view. Later I took my time driving down the mountain peak trail in second gear. I drove Westbound on Utah 12 in the Boulder Mountains. There was a few off-road trails so why the hell not try them? I had fun driving dirt trails for a while then continued Utah 12 Westbound.
I found one of my old camps in the nice aspen trees. I goofed off there for a while then returned Westbound towards Bolder. (I included my old pics cuz they were better then my new pics.)
I made a brief stop for viewing at scenic view B and scenic view C; then I continued Southbound on the major downhill near the South side of the Boulder Mountains.
I could not resist my last off-road chance to play with Old Blue in the dirt. Then I drove downhill and left the Dixie N Forest and arrived in Boulder.
