Just a quick note from southern Utah. We awoke this morning to the sad news of deaths because of flash flooding in Hildale, Utah. Needless to say, the local TV coverage has been quite pervasive, although it was also the lead story on NBC National News. And tonight comes more sad news, that there are dead and missing in Zion National Park. Those sites are closer to southwest Utah, and we are in southeast Utah. And fortunately, because we move slowly, we had not yet gotten near the Parks over there. The skies have been spectacular today. We are on a high wide plain with striking panoramic views, and it is fascinating that the cloud colors can vary so much in different directions.

We were awakened early this morning by a vigorous thunderstorm, and more storms are forecast for us tonight. But this weather is mainly interesting for us. We are awed by the terrible results of the weather not too many hundreds of miles away. Tomorrow we head to Hite, on Lake Powell. And we hope for no more terrible weather news in this state.
