Yesterday we waved good bye to the adorable town of Marathon and made our way into Big Bend. We stayed at a park campground at the basin of the Chisos Mountains, made for a georgeous view in the morning! We got a short hike in last night before it got dark, when it gets dark boy it's dark! This morning we packed up and moved down the mountain to what they call the Rio Grande Village camping area. We are so close to the Rio, planning on tomorrow going for a good walk along it! We've seen lots of lots of cute Roadrunners, they just run a straight line across the road, it's so funny! On our drive around the park we've also seen some Hawks and a few small flocks of Scaled Quail this morning. We are in mountain lion and black bear country, wouldn't mind seeing one, from a safe distance of course. 😊
There's a place close to our campground that you can take a raft ride across the Rio into a small Mexican town called Boquillos, it's a small town with a heavy military presense that the locals are keeping protected and preserving it for the tourists that come in. Everyone we talk to highly recommends going there, it's on our bucket list for next time since we didn't bring our passports. 😉
There's no phone reception anywhere in the park so email me if you need to contact me. 😊
