Wow... week 3 is over already! Time has really flown by.
Lakeside RV Park, Livingston Louisiana - We finished our week at the Lakeside RV Park - the campground was beautiful and a perfect location. I fished several days.. not catching much - but did get a couple. Our neighbor was fishing with hotdogs... so I had to run to Walmart and get some too! But soon resorted back to my worms and artificial bait. It was fun playing around ... very relaxing for sure. I did miss my fishing buddy Marie ALOT...
We did head over to New Orleans for the afternoon one day. It was a little over an hour drive. It was a cloudy day, with temping rain on and off - so it was nice to get out and see some of the area. Mark and I have been to NO several times, so obviously we did go to Harrah's AND left our contribution 😊
KOA Houston West, Brookshire Texas - When we left Louisiana the weather was wonderful (naturally)! Mark had all the stuff packed up the night before, so when we got up we were ready to go! We left around 9:45
am and arrived in Brookshire Texas around 4. The trip was only suppose to take 5 1/2 hours but traffic was horrible and took almost 7! The campground, KOA Houston West, was right on the highway... very noisy but we were glad to be there - it was just an overnight stay.
Johnson Creek RV Resort & Park, Ingram Texas - Continuing our drive down I-10, we left the campground around 11 and arrived in Ingram Texas at 3:30 - just a 4-1/2 hr drive. BUT... damn, I thought we had a lot of traffic in Atlanta... NOPE, nothing like Houston!! We talked with several campers in Louisiana about driving through Houston and also at the Texas Welcome Center... everyone said the same thing... watch your time! Don't be anywhere near Houston or West Houston around 8am or on or after 3pm - if you are you might as well wait until after 8pm!We were at the Welcome Center at 1pm when she told us we were 2 hours from Houston!! We hustled our butts up, I made some sandwiches and we hit the road eating! Sure enough we got to Houston right at 3 and traffic was just
starting to back up. I was so surprised that there was 16 lanes of traffic going through Houston and West Houston (also surprised that West Houston was just as big as Houston - almost like two different cities and skyscrapers). There were 6 lanes of regular traffic plus 2 lanes of a toll road ON EACH SIDE! But we made it... Mark did really good - calm and cool... like he said, the guy in Pittsburg that we got the RV from said - you stay in your lane and they will stay in there lane... just hold your course! Perfect advice 😊
During the drive from Louisiana, we passed hundreds of 'crawfish beds' and drove across miles upon miles of bridges that crossed swamps (or bayou's)... To me it is a swamp if your in SC or Fla.. and a bayou if your in Louisiana or Texas!!! haha Not sure what the difference is... but it was amazing to see!
Oh... we also saw a lot of billboards for Boudin Balls!!! I had to look that one up... for your reading pleasure this is what the internet describes Boudin as (and NO we didn't try this):
Boudin, the king of Cajun food. It is a unique food in that it can be breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, or car food. Whereas most of the country might show up at a morning get-together with donuts, we show up with boudin. And no two boudins are exactly alike—that’s amazing, considering they all have basically the same ingredients of rice and pork. One of the best boudins is made with the meat from the temple of the pig’s head, while another claims that a combination of hog jowl and shoulder meat is the secret. The truth is, they are all good. There’s liver in it but just enough, it’s nicely spiced but won’t burn your mouth, and it has the perfect amount of rice. Also, interesting so, the terrain from the Texas border to Houston is flat... the wind blew our RV continuously until be left Brookshire TX. From then on we were in what they consider Hill Country - tomorrow headed into Big Bend Country! Texas, like all other states, is divided into Regions... South Texas Plains,
Gulf Coast, Piney Woods,
Prairies and Lakes,
Hill Country,
Big Bend Country, and Panhandle Plains. Of the 7 Regions, by
the time we finish crossing Texas, we will have gone through 4 of them! BUT WAIT... there is also the return trip home that we will hit the two of the other upper regions!!
Back to this campground in Ingram Texas... it is nestled in a active Pecan Grove - so peaceful and beautiful! There is deer feeding stations in the groves so at night 20 or so deer come to get their evening meal! Everyone is very friendly. I hate we are only here two nights - I could stay here a couple weeks!!! Maybe next time... We drove around today to see some of the area... we are a little over an hour from San Antonio - both Mark and I have been there several times and also seen the Alamo - so we took a different path today and headed towards the hills! Saw my first Longhorn Steer... talk about a big cow!!! Also we drove down a road where there were constant reminders of a flood guage and dry creek/river beds. We were told that when it rains you don't want to be caught on those roads! The ground is all rock and has no
drainage, so everything in its path is flooded!! We also found an awesome restaurant that we had lunch... check out the portion sizes of our meal!! AND it was as good as it looked! We found a cute cultural arts area that had metal art (thought of Winston) and also Stonehenge II display of rock formations. Really a nice day...
The night has come to an end - and I can't see the key board anymore outside - so its time to close.. tomorrow we head to Van Horn Texas where I'm hoping to go to a Rodeo!! Wish me luck...
(Thank you Ethan for face timing us tonight... I LOVE IT)
