We said we would drive through all of Texas and we made it to the far western side today where we are flirting with another time change, but staying just east of it. We hit the road at 8:45 and 57 degrees under clear blue skies, for the first time since we left Florida, and hopped right onto I-10. And as we left San Antonio, we entered the Texas Hill Country once again. They call it hill country, and it is certainly not as flat as Florida or even the east coast of Texas, but it seems to me that in Texas they call small changes in elevation hills and they call hills mountains. we really are in van horn, tx. yesterday I left out las cruces, nm. when we left the k o a cabin, we went to las cruces, before el paso. as soon as we started down the road, we started seeing chile signs everywhere. it was an agricultural region, complete with irrigation ditches. but we must have passed 50 processing plants. they say the new mexico state question is red oreal green. we got to las cruces in heavy traffic. very difficult cycling. we were happy to find the hampton inn into mesilla, nm, a suburb of las cruces. we had planned a rest day, to go to the museum, and historic district of mesilla. this is billy the kid country, where he was tried and found guilty, and sentenced to hang. he escaped, and was ... read more

New Mexico: Lordsburg, Deming, Las Cruces, Anthony Texas: El Paso, Siearra Blanca, Van Horn Right now, in birthday celebration, we're reclining on our terra cotta patio and loungers drinking some cold cervesas in Van Horn, TX. So glad to be back where folks say "yall"! We started out this morning at our fabulous brand spanking new Hampton Inn in Lordsburg, NM. We went for a great workout in the brand spanking new hotel gym, and then cancelled it all out with some awesome waffles at the hotel continental breakfast. Really, they were awesome.
