On to Houston, TX.
We have not taken time to write a Blog since we were in Flagstaff, which was Oct. 1 - 3, 2010. Some of you heard about the Tornadoes that hit Flagstaff and since you have not heard from us you are wondering if we are okay. We left Flagstaff early on the morning of Oct. 4 and apparently the Tornadoes hit a few days later. Guess we got out of there just in time!! We did not experience any severe weather along the way but we did pass through a few heavy rain showers in Tucson and east of there. Now our nose is pointed toward Houston where we need to check in on Oct. 8. The one stop we want to make was at San Antonio, TX - another place of interest for its history and architecture etc. So we headed east on I-10, stopping one night at a Wal-Mart in Deming, New Mexico. Stopped to get a few pictures of things of interest along the way. There was a beautiful sunset in Deming, but we were not situated in a place where we could get a great picture.
Prickly Pear Cactus
Saw many of there along the way. Next night we spent at an RV park in Fort Stockton, TX. October 6 & 7 we were at the KOA in San Antonio, TX. Spent the day Thursday in the downtown area where we visited some of the many places of interest. We were able to take a city bus right from the campground into town where our first stop was the Alamo. This is where the Texans took a stand against the Mexican Federalist army of Gen. Santa Ana in March, 1836. All the defenders of the Alamo (an old Spanish mission) were killed, including such notable names in Texas history as David Crockett, William Travis and Jim Bowie, though other famous names, such as Sam Houston and Stephen Austin were not there at that time. Just a few weeks later Sam Houston’s army of Texans defeated and captured Gen. Santa Ana where the city of Houston now stands, and won the independence of Texas in that battle. All these details are drilled into the minds of every student in the Texas school system from kindergarten on up - just ask Stephen, Josh and Kirsten!!
From there we were able to stroll leisurely along the famous River
Natural Resources
Wind turbines and Oil wells walk which runs right through the middle of the city. This fascinating water way was originally built as flood control for the city. We expected the path to be lined with souvenir shops, but were surprised to find many luxury hotels and restaurants along the way. We were able to do the River Boat ride and ended the day with a great Mexican dinner right on the water.
Next morning we headed for Houston area and checked into the Rayford Crossing RV Resort near Spring,TX (north side of Houston). That evening David and the family brought all the fixings for a BBQ supper here at our camp site. It was so good to see them all again and to get BIG HUGS from everyone.
So now we will be in the Houston area for the next month spending time with David’s family as well as doing a few day trips around the area. So our Blog with be quiet for a while until we start our trip back West on Nov. 8 2010.
We want to thank you for your comments along the way. We now have reliable internet service so feel free to send us an

Back to you again.
Hi there! Glad to get your blog today. I am sooo glad you are able to do this trip. Stop and smell the roses like my brother says when he drives back to Canada from Nevada. That's what you are doing. I wrote you a note a few days ago but it did not get recorded. I was in Mission this morning @ Cedar Valley Menn. Church for a pancake breakfast. It is their 70th celebration. Lorraine, when I was in line to pick up my breakfast I was right behind your brother Ian. I recognized him & spoke to him and he said "They are in TX now." That was kind of nice to see him. Continue to enjoy your trip and your kids. God bless you. Annie Goertz.
