Any flag or no flag does not mean it's safe! If it was a blue flag it would mean: Presence of venemous marine life. Fri. Feb. 23rd: Yesterday was a travel day. It was uneventful except for seeing a bald eagle. My old bird book doesn’t have them this far south, but my newer bird book has a much more expanded range as they recover from DDT. We’re settled into a campground in the suburbs of Mission, Texas. Our campsite backs up to some relatively new medium/large sized houses. They’re very nice but a far cry from what we’ve had behind us at the last 3 campgrounds. It’s odd being back in a town. It was only a mile or two to go out to dinner tonight.
We arrived before our new windshield. Fortunately it arrived in today’s deliveries to the glass shop, so we’re scheduled for Monday. Our mail has not yet caught up with us. This is another new experience to have my sister send our mail to a different post office every week. We’re allowing more and more time in determining where she should send it.
Today we drove south to Hidalgo, Texas and parked our car. Then we walked across the bridge to Reynosa, Mexico. It was the first time either of us has been in Mexico. I was

I was surprised to see large glass bottles of coca-cola. George negotiated with a vender and bought a new leather belt. It was a challenge to find one that didn’t have a gigantic buckle. I think we could have enjoyed our experience more if we had gone with someone who was used to going over there and could have shown us what to do and where to go. We’re both glad we went, but waited until we came back to Texas to have Mexican food. The restaurant we went to was called La Casa de Taco. George often orders a dish with Mole sauce when we’re at home. The waiter warned him that it is very hot, so George reconsidered and ordered something else. We suspect that at home he probably gets a toned down version. We both enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent. The tortilla chips came with a wonderful tomato concoction that had some flavor I loved, but couldn’t identify.
Up until now we haven’t switched to

Tomorrow it’s supposed to get up to 90. We’ve changed to our summer wear, but the dogs still have their winter coats and enjoy their walks in the cooler part of the day.
Sat. Feb.24th: Today we finally were able to pick up some of our mail. We had planned to be in Brownsville at this point, so it was an hour’s drive to get to the post office. Unfortunately the mail we were expecting in Galveston still hasn’t caught up with us yet. The weather in the Mission area was supposed to be 90 degrees, so we decided to head to South Padre Island being we were relatively close and it would be cooler. It was definitely comfortable and cooler by the water, but extremely windy. The sand was blowing so hard in the one area it was like having my legs sandblasted. We ended up picking the dogs up to protect their eyes from the blowing sand. It was definitely hotter is Mission when we got home and
Windshield crack
This is the crack before we left Mustang Island. the news reported that a new record was set with a high of 93.
Sun. Feb 25th: A cool front came through and the weather is now perfect. The humidity is low and it was 80 degrees. Just the kind of weather to have all the windows open and sit outside to enjoy the weather as much as possible. It was a good day for relaxing at our campsite. The crack in our windshield has continued to grow since we arrived here. I didn’t take a picture of the new extensions from the original impact site. The one reached the bottom of the windshield on the drive here, but has now sprouted at new extension from where it had made a right angle turn. I’m looking forward to having a nice new windshield with no growing cracks.
We’re camped at Tradewinds RV Resort an active adult retirement community. We didn’t get “carded” when we registered and George takes full responsibility for being the senior member of our RV. Everyone has been very friendly and they do seem to have a lot of activities going on every day. We’ve talked to a number of people, but haven’t participated in any of the activities. This park is filled with winter Texans who escape the cold weather in the northern states and Canada. Our neighborhood in this park seems to have a large percentage of folks from Iowa and Ontario.
