Nov 30 we left BBNP going north to Marathon, and then southwest to Sanderson for the night. Dec 1 we continued on past Langtry and on to Del Rio for 2 nights. On Dec 3 our route took us through Eagle Pass and on to Laredo. Dec 4 our trip went through Roma and on to Pharr, where we had a motel room reserved for a week. We traveled out of Pharr throughout that week to several wonderful nearby birding areas. The next stop for us was another week's stay just down the road at Brownsville. This is the largest city you can go to in south Texas....it is basically the tip of Texas. Here again we traveled about throughout the week visiting wildlife and bird refuges. Brownsville is where this blog ends and the few pictures ... read more

We visited our friend Greg’s place on Port Isabel, just off of San Padre Island one afternoon, and were fortunate enough to get a boat tour around that island, and also to the far tip of Texas…where the tip touches the water! Greg has seen dolphins in that area, but not the day we were there. It’s a major shrimping area (we went out for shrimp that evening!) We tried to catch up with the shrimpers, but they were going away from us, and once we got into the Gulf water, Greg said we didn't have a big enough boat to go further. We had a wonderful day weather-wise, but once we got on the water the wind was significantly stronger, so we stuck closer to the shore. We went to Mexico, on our tour, and ... read more

(Grace Community Church) A friend of ours from Billings has a place not far from here, over on the Gulf, and he came over to the project to see us on last Thursday. We hadn’t planned on going to Mexico, but after we visited for a time, we decided to go, and Bob and I we decided to make a trip in the rain, mostly because we were grateful to have an experienced tourist go with us the first time. We’ve been to Tijuana, and Acapulco, but nothing could have prepared us for Progresso; it’s a small town (I guess…we were advised not to go more than a block either side of the main street). The main street is about eight blocks long, and is just filled with shops on the inside of the sidewalk, ... read more

(Grace Community Church) The best to you, in 2010! It appears that the Y2K thing didn’t come to pass, and here we are, a decade later! I don’t think I’m a decade older….or a decade smarter! But I am happy! We had a wonderful December; traveled 3800 miles, saw many many friends, most of our family, and, thanks to the ineptness of Delta Airline’s luggage department, and a huge storm, we got to have an early Christmas with all of our kids and grandkids, with the exception of one! What a gift that was! We also got to experience weather so cold that it should be illegal. (and now the northern states are experiencing it again.) We spent New Year’s Eve at RVICS Village, which was a thrill because there were so many couples there that ... read more
