Needless to say, we weren't impressed with what Austin had shown us, so we packed up and left for New Braunfels and the Gruene (pronounced green) Dance Hall. We stayed at the River Ranch RV park just under I-35. That sounds bad, but with the A/C running full time (did I mention that it's 100 degrees and at least 85% humidity???), you didn't hear the traffic noise, and the park is right along the river. Once we got situated, we headed for Gruene, just outside of New Braunfels. Apparently it had turned to a Ghost Town (although the Gruene Hall never closed), but had been revitalized, and now it's a nice little town full of antique shops and restaurants. We chose The Gristmill (which was actually the old gristmill) for dinner...it was ok, but nothing fabulous.
