blog 11-01-17 Bowie to Marshall, TX Yes, we are still in Texas. We have been driving for 3 days and we are still in Texas. Thank goodness we didn't go across the fat part of the state. Our purpose in going south to I 20 was to find warmer weather and that we did do. When we got to Marshall it was 74 degrees and we sat outside in the sun for about 1 1/2 hrs just enjoying the warmth. The wind had been a side wind all the way here but tonight it died down to a very gentle breeze and we watched 8 ducks on a pond very close to us. There were 2 fellows who are staying here at the campground that tried their luck to catch a fish but no luck tonight. ... read more

Geo: 32.546, -94.3501This posting was NOT proof-read by Glenn, so please disregard any grammatical mistakes that I have posted.We were able to swing off of I20 and take a short 1/2 hour visit with Margaret White Perry.Margaret and I first met when I "escorted" her to Thailand back in 2004. First Baptist Liberty City asked for a volunteer to fly her over. And of course I couldn't pass that by. I stayed a few extra days.Margaret and her husband came to visit u in Guatemala just 2 years ago, when they were journeying around the world. They took Spanish classes in Antigua. And then we drove them to Semuc Champey for a 2 day visit at the water falls there. Lovely folks.They just had a baby born several months ago. Asher was very content.... read more

We packed up and got on the road. I thought I would give the Texas State Railroad one last chance so we drove through Rusk on the way to Marshall. The train runs between Palestine and Rusk (when it runs). The depot was deserted and we decided not to wait until Saturday night to see if anyone showed up. Too bad, maybe next time. We then headed to Carthage. On the way into town, we passed a sign with information about the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. What a delightful museum. I would not call myself a big country music fan but I can recall in the 50’s when radio stations played all kinds of music and there was no distinction between rock and roll and country.
