What I've Been Up To
I can't believe I have been in Texas for over 5 weeks! Unbelievable how fast time has flown! My days have been filled with various people and activites. Less than a week after my arrival I began working at Chipotle Mexican Grill. My last day was Sunday. Working there filled most of my evenings. I got to meet many people and brush up on my spanish while working there. I even made a couple of friends. One was Becky, who doesn't work there, but was a regular who temps as an RN at one of the nearby hospitals. She lives in Kansas and heads home the same time I leave for New Orleans. We're hoping she gets a stiint in NOLA and can come visit me! I also met Mike; a fellow burrito engineer who doubles as a bench jeweler at Zales. We hit it off from the get-go and spent several Mondays playing frisbee golf...I showed no improvement, just frustration. We also went camping one weekend and shot skeet....IT WAS A BLAST! I wasn't surprised that I'd enjoy shooting so much, but was amazed that I was actually hitting the clay pigeons! We
A Night Out With The Girls
Just showing our true colors had a lot of laughs and fun experiences; it'll be a bummer to say good bye...but all good things must yadda yadda yadda, right? We'll see😉
The days were never long or lonely! Nearly every day in Texas has been spent with family! Some days I would hang with the Cruz Clan. James likes to play with his Airplanes and ChooChoos. Pierce is a bottle connessiuer and enjoyed bouncing on the yoga ball with me. Lem and I enjoyed nap times to visit or watch movies. Funny how it never seems time has put any distance between us. We lead very different lives, but
know each other and still get the giggles.
Other days, I'd spend on Nadalsky Turf. Katie and I tried out a couple recipes, one for dinner (not too shabby!) and a homemade chai tea recipe; DELICIOSO! The girls are very much into their make-believe. Ali plays house and Mia plays mama (wonder where she got that idea...wink wink) There have been some beautiful days where we've been able to go to the park or hang out in the backyard. Katie, Lem and I even went out one night for pizza and girl talk in

Believe it or not, there was still a lot of free time which I spent with Tammi and Jim! Tammi and I enjoy going on walk/jogs around the neighborhood, getting to catch up. It's so special to hear her share stories (some that I've already heard from others) and get details about the aunts and uncles from another persons perspective. Uncle Jim and I enjoy patio time, kickin back and shootin the breeze. And, naturally, I've been very well fed here! Jim sure likes to cook, and no one is complaining! Working nights was a serious drawback when it came to this!
Next On The Menu
Only one week left in Texas. My mother is flying here as I write this! If the month behind me has flown, I'd better prepare for warp speed! We've got quite the week planned....not telling what yet...but I'll be sure to fill you in. She'll be here for Thanksgiving and flies out the next day. I, too, will leave then, but in a different direction. (Drumroll Please....)The moment we've all been waiting for.....NEW ORLEANS HERE WE COME!!!!! Who is "we" you ask? The mouse in my pocket?
No no. Lem! That's right, Leslie Joan Portz...Cruz...herself, will be driving over to NOLA with me! We plan to arrive Friday evening, find a stellar hotel, give ourselves an orientation of the city and prepare for a long day ahead. Saturday will be spent looking at apartments I've researched and previously applied for. Sunday, I'm sure, will come all too soon and she'll be flown back home to her hubby and babes, leaving me solo....and WITH an apartment my new town. So, I'm sure there may be some thoughts like "are you kidding me! One day to look at apartments then you're alone in the city where you don't know anyone!?? What if....what if...what if!? Oh stop! I don't think anyone can deny that Someone has been watching out for me up until now, and I am confident I'll be in the same hands when I make the leap. I can't say for certain how, but I know it WILL work out, no matter what. Just be sure to say a little prayer for me (it doesn't have to be while you put on your make-up tee hee).
After that....we'll just have to see!
My soul is as
open as the sky, and often times just as blue...
People tell me to keep on dreamin', that's just what I'm gonna do
