May 25th, 2013 I went to the 47th annual Polka Festival in Ennis today. This is the 3rd time I have been to the festival. I always enjoy the parade. They had a tornado in Ennis about 2 weeks ago. It hit part of downtown. They had to change the parade route. It looked like a lot of the damage had already been cleaned up. The Polka festival is always a great place to people watch.... read more

This blog should have been entitled “For Dog Lovers” as it is more about our dog’s first adventure with us traveling. Last November we adopted a new dog. We’ve named him Flash and everyone who meets him agrees that it is a perfect name for him. Our new family member is an American Eskimo and he is about 2 years old. He was with us at our stationary home for about 9 weeks before we took off for our winter adventure. Initially he was impressed with the view from the back of the couch as the RV traveled down the road. Eventually he settled into snoozing on my lap. He enjoyed each stop at a rest area or campground and inhaled all the wonderful new smells. We spent seven weeks at the Escapee Rainbow Plantation in ... read more

We’re on the road again, letting the good times roll. It takes a while to get in the travel routine and to start blogging. We left Michigan Feb 16th. It was later in the month than we originally planned, but the weather looked more promising for our trip out of the cold north. Last year the trip was during an extreme cold snap, so this year was much better by comparison. We had planned shorter driving days, and they were relatively shorter. We took more stretch breaks of longer duration. George’s back handled the new routine without a problem. We arrived in Ennis, Texas on Feb 20th for a visit with Cindy, Bob and family. We had a great visit and ended up staying longer than anticipated. We shared many great meals, toured the area, bought ... read more

The Prairie and Lake Area of Texas is another area that is different from the ones we have already visited. We were in Waco, Ennis and Waxahachie. In Waco we went to The Texas Ranger Museum and to see the 1869 suspension bridge over the Brazos River. The Museum had a 45 minute video presentation highlighting the history of the famed law enforcement group. The lives of some special rangers are depicted. Artifacts (especially firearms) used by the group are displayed along with information. The suspension bridge has been restored and a park and paths along the river are the highlights of the park. Only the rotting Carp and debris along the shoreline detracted from the experience. Ennis is a cute town that has a Czech background. The town has many events throughout the year including ... read more
