Arriving at Graceland, the home of Elvis, was a time in my life that I don't think that I will ever forget. I'll give you a rundown quickly in case you never make it to Elvis Presley Boulevard or the heartbreak hotel.
Etched into my memory is the drive into Graceland, the gates adorned with loving fans messages and names- a sign that the "King" is still in many peoples minds to this day and I guess, selling more albums and movies as I think he always will.
Once you look at the mansion it's really not as big as today's stars houses, it was big yet somehow humble and modest at the same time, and walking in it became apparent that I guess a somewhat 'normal' family had lived here once upon a time.
The furniture was still intact as it would have been in the 50s and obviously decorated in that area- baby blues, white couches, glass and mirrors everywhere, greens, and anything else you can think of for that era. T.V's were everywhere, you could tell Elvis liked to watch the box in every room, even downstairs in the basement there was three T.Vs- so he could watch
all three news stations all at once...clever man. He had a jungle room with was covered from floor to ceiling in grass green shagpile and custom waterfall, and toys from Lisa Marie on the couches, and as you walked through the walkways and stairs of the Graceland mansion, for a second you could almost imagine Elvis himself walking through the doors, sitting down and entertaining people- he liked to do that. Unfortunately not upstairs though, which was his private headquarters and as a token of respect no guests were allowed upstairs, but how I would've died to go up there and taken a look, it made me wonder if furniture existed upstairs as he would've left it, or would it have been completely void of any furnishings and just simply a series of empty rooms. Being in the mansion furnished, regardless, gave you an eerie feeling almost as it seemed nothing had been moved out of place since his death at the tender age of 42.
There is definitely a connection between the place and Elvis that makes you a fan even if you weren't previously, his achievements outstanding and endless as you walk through the hall of gold albums,
grammies and awards, nobody could really compete with what he achieved, and all the while I never knew how young his achievements even started.
Buying this house at 21 and singing well before, it becomes apparent that this man was destined for greatness at a young age. I would love to know what he thought of all these people walking through his house, placing flowers daily at his grave sight even though they never had talked to him themselves, and paying money for the privilege of doing so. I wonder how he would look today, whether he would've produced more music or movies would they still be valid.
Extremely successful man either way, who revolutionized music with his voice, style with his clothes and to this day sold more albums than any other.
