New Milford PA
The Lynn Lee B&B main entrance Through the Endless Mountains to New Milford PA and on through NY State to the St Lawrence This whole entry is dedicated to our stay at
New Milford PA, a charming 'village' in the
Endless Mountains - another area we must try and return to in the near future. It's worth just coming here and investigating the area - loads to do and look at. Ski, walk, cycle, boating, history, industrial archaeology.
This was our overnight stay after visiting the Harley factory in York PA and the Amish country nearby. It was at the end of a long day (too much to go into here - but see previous entry covering the Harley visit).
So after a long day of visits and travel, on a hunch starting with my Garmin Satnav B&B listing we came off the motorway and dived into New Milford. We were looking for the Lynn Lee B&B.
We found it! A charming Victorian style house bedecked with verandas and a riot of colour from flowers. No one at home. No one at home in the village as a whole. It's the Village of the Damned! Across the road is a run down shack

The Queen of Hearts bar - looked unwelcoming and run down- turned out to live up to its name - the Queen of Hearts - which serves as a bar - maybe someone there can direct us to the owners.
We enter with trepidation - the entrance to the bar has kicked in grubby wall panels - it's not looking good. We emerge into a smoke filled room with a U shaped bar. It's full of stubbly rednecks. Oh sh*t! We're done up in poncy motorcycle riding gear (no one wears that stuff here, Harley riders even wear bandannas for head protection - but then they don't have any brains to protect) and we get funny looks. We're not going to get out alive!
We order a drink from a friendly barmaid (she's actually the owner) a toothless old lady with wig tries to persuade Carol to play pool or something. Turns out all the others are itinerant oil workers from some oil field nearby.
With typical chivalry I leave Carol on her own in the bar, volunteering to go over the road to see if the B&B owners are back (the bar owner assures us they are around and will be pleased to see us). They are there, and tell me there is plenty of

The Lynn Lee B&B front garden space for us. The rooms are charming and so is the owner Eleanor Lempke. Later her husband Chuck comes over for a drink with us.
On my return to the bar, one of the young 'redneck' oil workers and his girlfriend have been entertaining Carol and have bought us both a welcoming drink. They depart wishing us well (turns out he goes bike touring too) refusing to let us return the favour.
You see, appearances
are deceiving.
We have one of our best overnights here - the landlady is Canadian* and an ex Home Economics teacher with a taste for conversation and antiques, and a garden full of flowers - civilisation at last. My Mum would love it.
*I like Canadians - they have knowledge of the wider world and understand irony. Some of my best friends are Canadian - cousins even! Come to think of it I am too - at least by birth!
