Since the invention of the Internet a lot of people have used it as a reliable source for information in a very fast way. I agree with this argument except for the fact that in my dorm on the second floor the connection always seems to fail. Because of this about ounce a week on Fridays the Internet goes out for the entire weekend and any home work that I have due on Mondays is much harder to complete especially if it has to be E-Mailed. Because of this sometimes while at Villanova I found the Internet more trouble then an advantage.... read more

24 anyone? With a beautiful and manly Jack Bauer and an incredible story line.. 24 has taken over my life. Its quite interesting to see that on Monday nights, my friends and I drop everything we are doing to rush over to watch 24 together. So, its interesting, 24 hours in a day, the intensity of terrorist attacks; however, its funny that our everyday lives are completely different from what we watch on television. How real is reality TV? Media, entertainment, and the music industry? CONSUMES MY LIFE. My roommate subscribes to almost every magazine telling you how to look like, act like, or be a celebrity. However, living in Los Angeles, the idea of what the entertainment industry is completely different from what it is portray to be. Celebrities, producers, actors, musicians are not the ... read more

So far this week my cell phone still hasnt broken, my computer is still running and... thats about the only technology i use (or the main ones). Last semester within the same week my cellphone decided to break, i guess because i dropped it all the time and refused to keep the ugly black leather case on it. Also my harddrive broke, so my computer would not turn on at all. I couldnt communicate with anyone, listen to music, do homework, look at my pictures, check my email or waste time on facebook! My computer breaking put me behind in school work and made it lonely to be in my room alone. My phone breaking was SO freeing! I couldnt talk to anyone and kind of had to bump into people for lunch, but I didnt ... read more

I am a hugeeeeee fan of the internet. It is an awesome way to look up information quickly as well as being a great source of entertainment. Unfortunately there is a down side to this amazing resource. Just yesterday I was watching Oprah (what a great show!) and it was about a girl who commited suicide. She had been a member of a website that was "pro-choice" which in fact meant pro-suicide. The website gave the people ideas and tips on different ways to commit suicide and what the easiest and most painless ways of doing so are. As well as this there was a chat room type of thing where the members wrote their feelings and talked about how and when they were going to actually kill themselves. This girl was a perfect student and ... read more

One part of modern technology that is really starting to get on my nerves are cell phones. Cell phone are becoming such a large part of our way of living, they are a must have for all ages. I am not anti- cell phones for many reasons, mainly because they make one's life a lot easier when it comes to contacting people, but I feel that cell phones can be "abused" at times by people and that they are getting too out of hand. I would say that the majority of commericals that are aired today are either Sprint or Verizon ad's that are out of date by the time they air. Every time I see a new cell phone commerical I see a new little peice of technology added to phones that we dont really ... read more

I think that before I start this semester-long blog on my experience in a society dominated by new technology, I should reflect on the fact that the ever-changing technology that I see as the norm is completely foreign to so many. In the town of Ignacio Ellacuria in rural El Salvador, a town I had the privelige of visiting for a brief time during the summer of 2004, the people literally have nothing. The town has recently been able to purchase a computer (a very old one) for its one school, and that is by far the most advanced this town gets. Each section of the town has running water for one hour every day. This water is used for bathing (like a sponge bath, to conserve as much water as possible), cooking (there are no ... read more
