Today's torrential rain put a quick end to the outdoor activities I had planned; you know the usual Saturday stuff, pulling weeds, putting down mulch, and other such mundane chores. It's not all bad however. Today's weather gave me the opportunity to start packing. Packing for almost three weeks takes a delicate balance between things that you want to take, things that you need to take, and things that you's liketo take but know that you probably never use anyway. So, there it is - spread all over my bed - the wants, the needs, and the likes. That's why I like to start early, there's a lot of wrestling (with myself) over the three combatants. Vacation 2013 Although not our longest trip, a planned 4,800 miles, it might be our most diverse. We’ll go from eating grits to back bacon and hearing “Y’all” to “eh”. We will be making a giant loop around half of the USA. Our trip will take us from Baltimore to Atlanta then to ‘The Big Easy” via Talladega, Pensacola and Mobile. After sampling the beignets, po’boys, and muffulettas we’ll head north along the mighty Mississippi to the gateway to the west: St. Louis. There we’ll watch 4th of July fireworks under the arch and eat ribs, drink the local brew (Budweiser), and dine at Steak and Shake at least once. After resting and doing laundry in St Louis for a few days, we’ll strap ourselves in for the long drive to North Dakota. Since ... read more

Cool Facts: Reading was founded by William Penn's two sons, Thomas and Richard, in the year 1748. The town was named after an English town that their ancestors lived in. It was used as a supply base in the Blue Mountains in the French and Indian War. Now, Reading has a big industry: clothing manufacturing.... read more

24 days. 5,175 miles. 18 states. 14 destinations. One helluva trip. Many people have asked me the natural question - what was your favorite spot? I’ve rode the fence on that one as it’s tough to pick one. Every place I went had its own unique characteristics. To compromise, I’ve thought about some of the “bests” and “mosts” in a number of categories: Best nighttime entertainment - New Orleans Best food (single meal) - St. Louis (Pappy’s Smokehouse) Best food (overall) - San Antonio Best drinks - New Orleans Best music - Nashville Best people - Houston Best company - Houston Best new friends - New Orleans and Nashville Best scenery - Raleigh-Durham (UNC and Duke) Best for tourism - San Antonio Best tourist attraction - Atlanta (World of Coke) Best looking girls - Houston Best ... read more
