Larry's Sport Center
Free Food & Free Entertainment It was a warm and sunny day...... May 2nd. Too nice to stay inside or do yard work around the house. So we jumped in our favorite Ford Flex and headed across the state line into Potter County, God's Country, Pennsylvania. So snap your seat belts and ride along.
Our first destination was Larry's Sport Center, outside of Galeton, PA. It is a huge store that sells motorcycles, ATV's, snowmobiles and related. He had advertised free food and free entertainment on this beautiful day. Perfect! We were on our way. The food was delicious. We had missed the Elvis Presley impersonator but that was okay. The lady next to me said he didn't throw out any scarves and was just okay in his performance. We enjoyed the Johnny & June Cash impersonators very much. Their stage was a small, flat trailer. The auditorium was a small, open walled enclosure with folding chairs. Not a big audience but an appreciative one. Johnny got a tad miffed when the motorcycles ran their engines during his singing. Not the Amway Center in Orlando. But it was fun and free.
We left after their musical performance and headed down Route 6 into Galeton,
PA. Here we visited a large mercantile. It is a fabulous old store filled with old and new items. You can walk along the very high, narrow, fenced wooden ramp that goes around the entire upper level. If you don't like heights or shaky boards....you would not do this. Bought nothing but enjoyed the visit. I was fascinated with their transformation of an old church: into a movie theater. What a heavenly idea. Do you think they would show Fifty Shades of Grey there?
We traveled back towards home by taking an old back road off Route 6. I belong to a Facebook group called Old Farms and Barns. I love finding old farms, barns, abandoned homes, old stores and churches and submitting them to this group for all to enjoy. I had over 400 likes on a photo I took of The Hickory Tavern in Coudersport. It has been abandoned for years and looks like the Bates Motel house. It started as a private residence, became a tavern and now is just a ghost house. Today, I took a few pictures of an old red building on Rt.6 where we turned off. It was a church (cemetery in
Johnny Cash Sings
June & Johnny Cash back), school, store and some sort of sawmill....now it is abandoned. But still intriguing.
We made our way into Ulysses, PA. Stopped at a small antique shop - mainly so I could take pictures across the street of an active home with tons of crap all over the place. It just amazes me to think that people are comfortable living in these conditions.....we have many similar places throughout our area. Have they never heard of a dump or landfill? We dined at The Corner Cafe in Ulysses. It has good food with a big salad bar. Ran into a couple acquaintances who probably wished we hadn't stopped here. They weren't with their respective spouses. You play; You pay.
More winding roads and more old farms & barns, we finally entered New York, Allegany County, Town of Willing - past the Genesee River.....where we live in the hamlet of Shongo. It was a very nice day. Glad we didn't decide to do yard work or household chores. Lulu watched the house while we were gone. Good, ol' Lulu! Hope you liked the ride.
