A Riveting Experience!
Jessica rivets the downspout onto Kim's new gutter while Zan and Ed hold it for her. Thursday, March 19th
It was our last day at Kim’s house. Jessica and Katelyn pulled the outside paneling off Kim’s bathroom, added more insulation, and replaced the paneling. Scott and Stephanie rebuilt the stairs to Kim’s attic as Zan worked to cut wood for them. When Ed returned from getting the right size gutter, Scott and Ed returned to finishing the ends of the roof box. As we worked Kim introduced us to her very friendly and quiet German Shepherd, Conner. Stephanie served as a counter weight to Scott as he finished up the box and everyone else prepared the gutter to be attached. We finished up the gutters, the downspout, and the box and did a final clean-up in Kim’s backyard, and our work there was done. As we left Kim insisted that she get a hug from each one of us and thanked us whole heartedly for our work there. She told us never to forget her and whenever we saw a squirrel to think of her.
Tomorrow the group that has been working at Kim’s house will be helping Ed finish getting supplies together for the groups that will be coming this weekend.
Watch out for your fingers!
Zan cutting a board to length for Scott to build the box on Kim's roof. Thursday the team at Jim’s house got right to work; happy to have Jack back to help with the electrical projects in addition to Dave’s expertise. Mallory, McKenzie, and Susan attacked the first floor bathroom to remove the rest of the slat boards and plaster while Kevin and Michelle did the same in the second floor bathroom directly above. They also drilled holes for new electric lines, filled in the rest of the insulation installation, and removed the sink from the wall in preparation for new drywall. (Amy looked on and travelled from level to level trying to be helpful). By the end of the day, new wiring ran through the kitchen and both bathrooms into the basement. Susan won chick of the day award by tackling numerous projects including braving the crawl space in the basement to help pull the wires down from above. Amy and Jack work on the circuits and stapling down the new lines. Throughout the day our trash load grew immensely and we’re all anticipating the long haul tomorrow to rid dear Jim’s yard of our debris. For fun we piled all seven of us in the cab of Jack’s pick-up to ride to
Saying Goodbye
As we finished up our work at Kim's house we took one last picture of our work team and Kim Burger King for a pee break and watched the squirrels eat the peanut’s Jim left us.
This evening we had some more time to relax here at the Pittsburgh Project guest house. Some took naps, others caught up on the trip blogs, and others read a little. A little later in the evening we had a small worship service where Zan played guitar for us and Pastor Scott led us in reflection and prayer. We talked about where we saw God this week and what has been interesting or special to us this week. We are currently ending the night in a game of Phase 10!
We are sad to be wrapping up our week here, and will be very sad to say goodbye to all of the wonderful people we have met here in Pittsburgh.
