Riding in Style
Kenzie riding in the back of the van with a load full of construction trash on it's way back to the Pittsburgh Project to throw in the dumpster. Friday, March 20th
It was our last day here in Pittsburgh 😞. The group at Jim's house was all ready and eager to go in the morning. The group was joined by Jonathan, another member of the Pittsburgh Project, as Dave had several meetings in the morning. It was a very cold day that required all layers to be worn for the whole day and many trips inside to warm up. Amy, Mallory, and Kenzie loaded all of the very heavy garbage bags from the destruction at Jim’s house into the van and returned to the Pittsburgh project dumpsters. The other crew helped them lift the bags into the very tall garbage dumpster at the project. Meanwhile back at the site, the work continued. Susan searched for and discovered the source of a plumbing leak by seeing a rainfall of water pour down the inside wall. Susan, Amy, and Kevin worked on feeding wire, stapling wires, and installing electrical outlets in Jim’s bathrooms (and didn't electrocute themselves at all!). Michelle started cutting drywall to hang in the second story bathroom. After lunch Kevin and Michelle finished hanging the drywall Michelle cut. While they slaved away, Mallory, Jonathan, and Kenzie
Just keep wiring, Just Keep wiring...
Amy and Susan wire an outlet in Jim's Bathroom. installed an outlet in Jim’s bedroom. Susan risked her life by hanging out all afternoon two stories up on the end of the scaffolding as she painted a section of Jim’s house and trim. Much to Susan's relief,
Amy handed her paint, was a counter weight, and was a much needed moral supporter. We, as a group, are very satisfied with the work and projects that got done this week including electrical, shingling, a new window, and painting the house. Looking back on the week, we are all very lucky to have meet Jim, worked as much on his house as we did, and had a ton of fun while doing it!
For Jessica, Stephanie, Scott, Zan, and Katelyn today was spent helping Ed get ready for the groups coming for the weekend to do projects. We cleaned out the warehouse and set the supplies out for each group’s projects. In the afternoon we helped Ed run some errands, gathering more supplies and tools needed for future projects. Ed introduced us to all of his favorite discount stores including “Keystone Plumbing and Hardware” where we all found sunglasses for $1!!!! Ed, Jessica, Stephanie, and Katelyn all bought the same
All work and no play? Naaaaaah
Mallory is showing off the wire cutters that she used to cut a hole in Kenzie's pants and Johnathan is working to install an outlet in Jim's bedroom. pair of sunglasses in different colors (some of us even bought multiple pairs). Scott even found a “Special” pair of reading glass at the right prescription! We also picked up roofing supplies for one of the groups this weekend and delivered them to the house they will be working on. We have greatly enjoyed working with Ed this week, his humor and his great spirit has been a wonderful blessing.
This evening we went out to eat at Pittsburgh famous sandwich shop, Peppi’s! They are famous for their “The Roethlisburger” named after the famous Steeler’s quarterback. After supper we headed over to the Andy Warhol Museum to view the work of the famous Pop Artist from Pittsburgh. We are headed out tomorrow after breakfast with the weekend groups who arrived this evening at around 7:30.
We hope to stop and an outlook over the city for an end of the week worship service. Then we will be on the road again for the 14 hour drive (at least we gain an hour this time). C Y’all when we get back to good old Iowa.
(P.S. It SNOWED a bit here today)
