We helped to clean up the outdoor worship area for the Pittsburgh Project and filled up twelve trash bags.
Sunday, March 15th

It’s 59 and partly cloudy in San Diego, but here in Pittsburgh it’s 57 and partly cloudy! We’re excited to begin our Mission work here in the beautiful city of Pittsburgh. This morning we attended worship at Mosaic, the local church here on the Pittsburgh project campus. Mosaic was a very friendly community service full of music and very different than what we are used to. Stephanie commented on how it was her first church service that she could feel the sound vibrating underneath her feet. After a wonderful welcome from the people at worship, we headed to a picnic in the park with sub sandwiches.

After lunch we teamed up for a massive grocery store scavenger hunt to pick up food for the first half of the week since we will be cooking most of our meals this week. With the back of the van piled full of groceries, we headed back to home base through the curvy maze of roads Pittsburgh has to offer. We decided to spend our afternoon cleaning up trash in the park across the street. A few hours and 12 full trash bags later we had transformed the outdoor worship

area. We made a hoard of interesting discoveries including a frying pan, chicken liver, a baton, a fishing pole, several bags full of used baby diapers, a bag full of moldy potatoes, and lots and lots of wrappers.

This evening we headed to the south side of Pittsburgh for supper and a little bit of sightseeing. We split up and ate at a restaurant of our choice and had some time for a little shopping. We met at Rita’s after supper to try some Gelatis, which is a unique dessert that is a combination of Italian ice and custard. After Rita’s we headed to the incline trams that go up the side of the cliff face in Pittsburgh. We rode the tram up and spent some time and the top with a beautiful view of the Pittsburgh at night. Tomorrow we get to meet with Dave and getting our project assignments for the week.
