Oh my, how the time just goes! We arrived in Portland on Saturday night after a wonderful scenic drive through the Columbia Gorge. We didn't have any lodging booked so we drove to the Northwest Portland hostel and bad news! They were full. We sat in the car outside of a coffee shop and searched the internet for suitable lodging at an affordable rate. The Ace Hotel fit the bill. We got $140 room for $95. It was out of our usual price range but at that point we were willing to splurge for a hot shower and a cozy bed. The room had an owl painted on the wall, quite fitting for this gal, wouldn't ya say?
The next day we checked out Powell's Books. It is the largest bookstore in the world, so large that it has it's own map. We checked out the rare books room where a signed 1st edition of Stephen King's Firestarter can be yours for $2200. Next we headed to the hostel where we managed to book the next 3 nights. It is now night 2 and sadly, it is pouring outside. It rained all day yesterday when we went to the

World Forestry Center. We still had fun though. Last night we saw There Will Be Blood at a $3 theater. Awesome movie, go see it! Today we braved the rain and took the free streetcar to the Portland Art Museum. It was ok. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't still fighting off the cold that just won't quit. Maybe I'm just partial to the Philadelphia Art Museum.
Michael is off picking up the free pizza that's donated to the hostel every night. Beyond that, there are no plans for the evening. There are plenty of bars to check out if I decide to go out into the cold, damp night. Tomorrow we head to Mount St Helen's and Seattle. Bye for now! xoxo
