The Seaside at NewportBarely visible behind the docks is the Highway 101 bridge. We enjoyed many beautiful views along this short stretch from Newport to Lincoln City. Those coastal beaches are hosts to steady huge waves and of course set up for a lot of wonderful views.
Otis CafeWhen we ate lunch in Grant's Pass, way south in Oregon, some folks there gave us some advice as tourists. Included was a recommendation to eat at this obscure cafe in the obscure settlement called Otis, which we managed to find near Lincoln City.
Otis Cafe 2It is a simple place in a very small old building and seats only about 20 people. The bathroom is unisex and accessed right through the kitchen, bumping the cook out of the way as you pass thru.
Otis Cafe 3The food is home-cooked and delicious. Here is Rose's salad and fresh warm slices of white and molasses bread.
Otis Cafe 6 the dessertFresh, hot peach pie with ice-cream for dessert. Rose had soup and salad. I had an albacore steak sandwich that had the appearance and texture of a good-sized boneless pork chop. Truth? My tuna steak was a bit too dry but pleasant.
The cook, visiting the post mistressLooking like he is breaking into jail, the chef is just taking an afternoon break. We arrived a bit late 2:00 PM for lunch and he was relaxing after prepping our food.
Local gent takes a shine to RoseActually he offered to take our picture out front so I took his with Rose. He says he lives a few miles from the Post Office/Cafe and had been planting more potatoes that morning.
Gassing up at OtisFeatured these porta-potties as restrooms. Yes, quite a rustic village.
