Clearly marked in KansasClearly marked in KansasClearly marked in Kansas

Katie got out to take this picture, and almost became dog meat as a local's dog growled whilst she took it, she was soon back in the car and we were off...!
We left Joplin, Missouri at 9.30am and 10 minutes down the road we entered Kansas - No sign of Dorothy though, I guess she is still in Oz with Toto. Anyway - Thats completely irrelevant!

We stopped at a local shop to grab a souvenir from Kansas and the owner had just started a route 66 travellers signature book, she asked us to sign it as her first three.

We then felt pretty comfortable with where we were heading so up went the stereo with classic 80's tunes and some bopping away by us all, (to be honest though Katie was really going for it!) not so long later (whilst still going for it) Katie attempted to tell Nige he needed to stop, unable to hear me due to the stereo, Katie continued in her actions of pointing ahead (this also reflected her dancing, So am sure you can see this from all angles!!) We almost hit the car infront whilst taking in the views and bopping to the tunes, if it wasn't for those vital 10 inches the car would probably be a write off - at least Nige has quick feet - though not on the dancing

Katie navigating - No comment!
scene!! down went the stereo for good and on our way we continued..

We motored on the whole 13.2 miles through Kansas until we came to Oklahoma, taking us through Cartoosa, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. We were happily cruising along when we came to a spur in the road - No sign's, No people, No nothing... Instinct told us to take the unpaved gravel road instead of the nice paved road! we actually kinda based this on Nigel's cub scout days, with us trying to work out the position of the sun knowing we needed to be going South or West. Lucky for us he must have paid attention about 2 miles later we passed a route 66 sign, and then another 5 minutes we hit the main route again. Speaking of the sun it hit 92 today and obviously being in a convertible it has left some very unusual white bits on all 3 of us - to the extent that when we stopped for a snack at about 3pm the waitress actually commented and laughed at the state of us. Nige and Katie think the marks left at the top of my arm is the shape of

Well at least we attempted to go in
Missouri!! I beg to differ... It looks more like Arizona!!

We took a pitstop at just south of El Reno, yet again for fuel, food and fizz... before heading off for the next 2 hours. We arrived in Clinton at 5.10pm to visit the route 66 museum. Only problem being - It closed at 5pm. We decided to base ourselves here for the night and checked into a 'Days Inn' This proved a real good choice with an authentic american bar near by and a typical restaurant. We had a few drinks first then made our way to the restaurant (Katie classic coming up) As we ordered our food, a couple on the next table asked where we were from - England, we replied and suddenly found ourselves bombared with religious preaching - Those of you that know me, would know I would normally welcome this, however it became a bit heavy and Katie soon got caught up in it, Autographs and all, life stories etc, whilst myself and Nige got the bill paid and managed to get back into the bar, Katie then appeared with 2 business cards and a bookmark full of prayers and worships to acknowledge

This was travelling the gravel road in Oklahoma
and follow.... So if you can't get hold of Katie on a Sunday morning any longer, It's probably not due to a hangover or catching up with sleep you'll more than likely find her at Minster Abbey! Well after a pretty eventful day, Who know what tomorrow will bring...... well....

Tomorrow we are hoping to stop at 'The Big Texan' steak house in Texas between 12-1.30 our time. (7-8.30pm BST) This is where they have a 72oz steak free if you can eat it plus all the trimmings - Nige wants to try this, So here is the web link, they have a webcam specifically for this in the restaurant - If you get time take a look you may see him, or maybe we'll just give it a wave!! www.bigtexan.com then click 72oz steak live.
