After planning for months and officially counting down for 7 weeks, we’re finally on our way. Work went well and I got out 55 minutes early, letting us get underway at 1650 instead of 1800 when the countdown expired. Our goal was to get 200 of the 800 miles to Regina today.
Lisa Hardesty wanted all the inane details, so: we stopped at McDonald’s before leaving St Peter. Liam had a hamburger Happy Meal with apple dippers and chocolate milk, while Cole had a chicken McNuggets Happy Meal with fries and chocolate milk. I had a hamburger Happy Meal with fries and white milk; Jeff had chicken selects with honey mustard sauce, fries and pop. Jeff and I each had an apple pie. The Happy Meal toys are from the new Ice Age movie. We stopped for a potty break at Middle Spunk Rest Area (our second stop of the year there). I doubt I will recite our meals at any other time this trip, nor comment on our rest stops. I just don’t have a whole lot to say about today’s drive. I would recommend not stopping at the Petro in Fargo, not that they weren’t pleasant and easily
North to Alaska
We had to have a before photo! What if we are vastly changed by the experience? accessible, but because the exit is not well marked and we drove around for a few minutes trying to find the way out.
We have driven I-94 to Fargo too many times to count and the only excitement we’ve ever had was the one time many years ago that we saw the northern lights near Fergus Falls. Today we stopped at the rest area at mile marker 304. Jeff did a little inventive pushing and so two slides are in and two are enough out to get the boys to bed. It says no overnight camping, but frankly, this isn't camping. Both boys fell asleep on the way here. Liam loves his new booster seat, but he has head stability issues (thus the photo above). Cole fell asleep shortly before we got here, but they both fell asleep within minutes of getting in bed.
Even though I won’t recount our meals in detail, I’m hoping to include a few other bits of data for each day:
Conversation:
(after I had taken away the boys’ blankets because they were whipping them at each other)
M to L: Are you going to whip it around?
L: No
Appearances are deceiving
Cole just spent the last 2 minutes screaming, so he isn't actually happy. (so I gave his back)
C: Blanket back
M to C: Are you going to whip it around?
C: Yeah (before I finished the sentence)
M: You can’t whip your blanket around. Are you going to whip it around?
C: Yeah
M: Are you going to whip it around?
C: Yeah (with a smile)
(repeat many, many times)
Soundtrack (songs requested by the boys):
Who Says You Can’t Go Home
The Raiders March
