16 degrees in North Carolina!
"Blowin' in the Wind" ----- that was us! We got up yesterday in Christianburg, Virginia to a few faint spots of white flakey snow....nothing to even think about except to note how much colder it had become. Crank up the furnaces and we were on our way - except Cory turned the wrong way out of the motel. The road was narrowing (bad sign with an RV) when fortunately a possible turn-around appeared. It was sharp, gravely and narrow but as good as we were going to find. It turned into a parking lot for a church. What a miracle. This is at least the 3rd or 4th time we have ended up needing a turn-around AND each time it has been at a church.....how appropriate: when in need, go to church! It has saved us every time! Everything seemed good now..... but wait: hold our horses.......what I was hearing was not Lulu whistling a Happy Tune. It was the wind blowing all around the RV......rats! Cory had a good grasp on the steering wheel (even with his healing shoulder) but now I was singing Carrie Underwood's song "Jesus Take the Wheel." As we continued on, heading higher into the mountains,

Locked out! RATS!
the mighty bus was A Rockin' and A Rollin' ---- eeeeeeek. Cory assured me it was all fine and there was no problem......even though we were passing under big flashing signs that read: High Winds Ahead....Drive With Caution. I was nauseous.....ready to swallow all the antiemetic medication I had on board. With white knuckles, plugged ears and closed eyes (me...not Cory) we forged on. There is a huge, Mt.Everest size mountain we had to go over just as you come into N.C. The rig kept rolling....and rocking but Cory seemed unfazed even though I kept reminding him of the weather conditions RV's are NOT to drive in: snow, ice and HIGH WINDS! He sometimes seems to put a deaf ear to me. Well, by some miracle and Cory's persistence: we made it over the mountain and into N.C. Muchas Gracias! The winds continued to push us along but the worst was over. We finally blew to a stop in Hickory, N.C. at a wonderful LaQuinta Hotel. Lulu couldn't wait to race out to the beckoning swimming pool....16 degrees out and they had a full pool! Too bad, Lulu...the gate is locked: no swimming today. This hotel is close to where

No Swimming Allowed!
our son, Cory, and his family live (Conover). So for these past couple days, we have enjoyed being with all of them. Distance does not allow us to get together as often as we would like so these times are extra special for us. The time goes by too quickly so we savor each minute together. Parting is difficult. We miss them already and haven't even left yet. Departure will be in the morning even though they predict ICE! We shall wait it out if it looks like a problem......right, Cory??? it appears that Mother Nature is ticked off about something.....we thought we were heading into warmer weather but it does not look that way. The cold weather has just come right along with us. Brrrrrrrr --- "Lulu It's Cold Outside."
